Ageing should not be a synonym to losing athletic ability by leaps and bounds. It is true that by the age of 30 you begin to lose muscle mass, between 3-5% per decade, affecting testosterone levels at a hormonal level.

Many stop working out the lower limb or even put aside strength work under the false belief that it makes you slower. Nothing could be further from truth. In addition to the benefits for performance, including strength work to complement aerobic work has many health benefits, greater longevity and healthier aging or as they say, accumulated youth :)

It is convenient to structure and program the work correctly in both exercise modalities in order to minimize the interference effect and thus be able to benefit from the adaptations of both worlds.

If you want to know the foundational aspects of sport science a great starting point is the General Adaptation Syndrome Theory (GAS) by Dr. Hans Seyle.

This theory paved the way for great coaches to develop training methods that would evolve into the science of training we know today.

Context dictates goals, context + goals dictate stimulus, stimulus elicits a response and this circles back to a new context and goals.

Massive congratulations to Marin Millar from 🇺🇲 on winning her masters age group 🥇🏆at the , this iconic event was held in the rugged coastline of Finistère in Brittany, on the northwest tip of France🇫🇷, where many of the best athletes from the country emerged. On the podium was also super host and CEO of Helen Trehoret. 🙌🏼

📝Both paddlers deserve a lot of credit, not just because they sneaked a podium finish after a grueling event, more so because they juggle their training programs with a busy daily schedule full with other commitments such as work and family. Marin was on and off with our training plan, but managed whenever work allowed, to step out in the ocean away from her hometown in Toulouse. Earlier in January, she attended the Downwind Camps where she was able to enhance her skills significantly and put the cherry on top at the earlier this month. Sometimes, sticking to the program isn't necessarily the best option, giving time to recover after a long day at work or adjusting intensity and volume can be key to perform, we are humans after all!

Keep paddling Marin and Helen! You are on the right path😎

That's a wrap!
What a lovely time with such an enthusiastic bunch of paddlers in North Finistère.

Paddling stroke technique workshops, open ocean paddling, racing and a bit of strength and conditioning made for an action packed weekend, already looking forward to coming back.

Huge thanks to Helen and Jim from and Micky from for the support. These things don't come together working alone.
