The Best Way to Start a Morning: Hot Air Balloon Skydive!

Getting to jump out of a hot air balloon at sunrise might be my favorite way to start a day. Warm SoCal weather, clear visibility, and that quiet you only get in a balloon before the exit. Balloon jumps are different from aircraft too. There's no relative wind, so you just step off into completely still air and accelerate straight down. One of the purest feelings in the sport.

At the end of the video I go through my gear check on a brand new parachute. How I inspect it, hook it on, and pack it for some test jumps. I check and double check every step, and I'd say if you're ever unsure or it's your first time hooking on a canopy, go find a qualified rigger. There's no reason to guess on that.

There's also a 360 VR version on my Youtube channel if you want to look around during the jump yourself.

The amazing journey to fly

This jump portrays life perfectly. At times it can feel cloudy and you don’t always know the direction you’re going. Yet a glimmer of light can be just enough to take the leap. This jump was special because it brought together everything I had worked so hard for. The travel, the prep, the forecasting, the decision making, the waiting, the flight, and a safe landing.

Forecasts showed a clear morning, but by the time we reached the exit a cloud had formed around us. Tough call, because we had no live camera feeds on the ground to tell us whether it was just sitting on the summit or sitting further out down the flight line. Eventually a direct line of sight window opened up to our initial landing option and we felt confident we could make it there.

3, 2, 1, let’s fly. Not more than two seconds after a nice start, the cloud completely disappears and it’s clear all the way down. Hilarious. It was only ever sitting right at the exit point and nowhere else. You can see me smile the moment I realize this is going to be one of the best flights of my life. A lot more relaxed, I locked into the rest of the flight and made it to the landing area, where I was greeted by my jump partner and a few beautiful horses to pet. In my opinion it does not get better than that.

My Dream Wingsuit Jump ft. Horses! // Last Flight in Norway

I'm truly at a loss for words with how special this one was.

The day had everything you could ask for. The hike up, views over the fjord, green in every direction, and a landing right next to a field of horses. Those horses might be the best part. Groomed hair, totally unbothered, so happy and social. Not what I expected to walk up to after a flight. The flight itself felt like time slowed way down from exit all the way to landing.

We got to the exit completely socked in and ended up waiting almost an hour before things started to clear. Once we had enough visibility below us we felt good and went. Funny enough, after landing I realized the cloud was really only sitting right at the exit point and there was full visibility everywhere else. And the timing could not have been better, because about 20 minutes later the wind came up too much to jump at all. Sometimes you get the window and sometimes you don't.

Big thanks to the kind couple who gave me a ride back up to where we started the hike. Meeting people who take time out of their day to help is one of my favorite parts of traveling, and I'm beyond grateful.

A dream beyond the cloud 💫

I am truly at a loss for words with how special this jump was. It had everything you could ask for in a flight, from the hike, to the views of the fjord, above the green nature, and landing next to horses. And those horses were so dang cute with their groomed hair, they seemed so happy and social. It really felt like time slowed down from exit to landing. This was my last jump in Norway and it could not have been better. What a beautiful world we live in.

Flying off Europe's Tallest Sea Cliff // Hornelen, Norway

This has to be one of the coolest places I've ever jumped. It sits on the island of Bremangerlandet in Norway's Nordfjord region and is the tallest sea cliff in Europe, 860 meters rising vertically out of the water. The view up top was spectacular with ocean in every direction and the greenery was stunning. I landed right on the water and just had to take it in for a while. I truly am thankful for everywhere this sport has taken me. Without it I never would have discovered a place like this.

The mountain has been used as a landmark for naval navigation for centuries. It's also the best known witch rock in the region, with legend saying witches gather on the summit at midsummer and Christmas. There's a saga about King Olav Tryggvason climbing the wall around the year 995, which some consider the first established climbing route in Norway.

Flying over a Minecraft world 🌎

This has to be one of the coolest places I’ve ever jumped. Hornelen sits on an island in Norway and is the tallest sea cliff in Europe rising 860 meters straight out of the fjord. It’s been used as a navigation landmark for centuries, and local legend says witches gather on the summit at midsummer eve and Christmas. The view was spectacular with ocean all around and the greenery was stunning. I landed right on the water and had to soak it in for a minute. I truly am thankful for everywhere this sport has taken me. Without it I never would have discovered a place like this.

Flight of the fairy 🧚🏼

Jumping the world famous Romsdal valley in Norway was awesome! This area has been on my list for a long time. There are great videos from the early 2000s here when wingsuits were first emerging, so it was wild to finally fly something with this much history behind it.

Midway through you’ll see me correct into a dihedral formation. Normally this line is supposed to be flown to the right and then back left, but a small cloud was passing by. Very light as you can see, but I was concerned about an inversion layer, so I decided to fly the line straight down the ridge to have a left bailout with speed. As I pass the cloud I flew through sinking air because my suit went for a small dive, maybe coupled with the speed I was flying. The correction was fine, but this is a good reminder why even the smallest weather patterns can make a difference during flight.

Wingsuit BASE Jump Past a Famous Road!

Jumping in the romsdal valley has been on my list for a long time. Back when wingsuits were first emerging in the early 2000s, this is one of the places people were flying, and I watched those videos as I was learning in the past few years. There's something different about flying a spot with that kind of history attached to it, even if its not the most demanding flight. It's the same valley as Trollveggen, the tallest vertical rock face in Europe, so the whole area has been a proving ground for a long time. Mid flight I get to fly over the world famous Trollstigen road. Just awesome! Got lucky on the landing side too. Ended up asking a nice couple for a ride back up to my car, which saved me a two hour hike.

After the jump JJ and I make our way into Åndalsnes and complete the Grade D via ferrata route to the top. Mega blast. The views over the Troll valley from up there were unmatched, just beauty in every direction. So much fun!
