Namosi Eco Retreat Women’s Team & St. Michael Liganibai - Navunikabi Village, Namosi.
The Namosi Eco Retreat Women’s Team and St. Michael Liganibai from Navunikabi Village represent more than just rugby league teams.
Most of the players are dedicated farmers, with Yaqona (kava) being their primary source of income. Their daily routine consists of long hours spent in the farms, tending to their crops before making their way back to the village in the afternoons to train. Despite the physically demanding nature of their work, their passion for the sport drives them to push through fatigue and commit to their team.
This is a family-oriented team, built on strong bonds and shared values. The unwavering support from the village has been instrumental in empowering the women to step out of their traditional roles and embrace the game. Their journey is not just about playing rugby, it’s about breaking barriers, building confidence, and proving that women can excel in sports while continuing to contribute to their families and community.
Inspiring the younger generation to dream beyond the fields and strive for opportunities that extend beyond their village. The support they receive from their families and community fuels their motivation, making their journey in the sport even more meaningful.
These teams stand as a beacon of progress, proving that with the right support and belief, rural women can shine both on the field and in their daily lives.
