It has been more than 18 years since Nakasi had a rugby club, despite once being home to many talented and gifted rugby players. During those years, many young boys in our community grew up seeing volleyball as the main sport in the area, with little opportunity to be involved in organized rugby.
With determination and a vision for our community, we took the bold step of re-establishing Nakasi Rugby Club. It has been a challenging journey that requires commitment, sacrifice, and financial support. We are grateful for the assistance we have received from our local community, as well as from former rugby mates and supporters living in the UK and Australia.
We are now entering an important stage of development by establishing a new executive committee and completing the registration process for the club. This will allow us to work towards securing donations, grants, sponsorships ans funding opportunities from NGOs and various organizations.
Our main goal is to provide opportunities for youth and individuals who are passionate about rugby. Through the club and its programs, we aim to build a safer, stronger, and better Nakasi for future generations. Rugby is more than just a game—it is a tool for personal development, discipline, teamwork, and positive community engagement.
We have recently completed a successful kava barrel fundraiser and are already planning our next fundraising initiative to help support the club financially. There are still many essential items we need to purchase, including training equipment, gym and fitness gear, and other resources necessary to strengthen and develop our team.
The road ahead is not easy, but we remain committed to our vision. We will continue to push forward, overcome challenges, and work tirelessly until our goals are achieved. We will not back down until the foundation of Nakasi Rugby Club is firmly built and our community can once again be proud of a strong rugby presence in Nakasi.
