A promising start for our Under 20 squad as they played their first combined match this afternoon at Vinod Patel Park. Despite falling just short in a hard-fought 6–7 contest against Ba, the boys showed great determination, resilience, and plenty of potential.

A one-point loss is always tough, but there are many positives to take from the performance as the team continues to build combinations and prepare for the challenges ahead.

Heads up, boys! this is only the beginning. 💪🏉

Before kickoff, we paused for a moment of silence to honour three cherished members of our rugby family who sadly passed away this week.

From the Shores of Vio to the world stage of Rugby

From humble beginnings to Olympic glory, Aminiasi Tuimaba reflects on the importance of grassroots rugby and the role club competitions played in shaping his career.

Today, Tuimaba proudly returned to represent his home club, Vio Rugby Club, helping the team successfully defend the Tropik Pine Shield.

"I am now seeing the benefits of club games. When I played for Vio Rugby Club, there were many challenges. We would travel by fibre boat, get off at the wharf, and walk to Nadovu for training. By the time we got home, dinner was often finished, so we would just have a cup of tea and go to sleep. But I stayed true to everything I did and gave it my all."

Tuimaba credits those sacrifices as the foundation of his success in rugby sevens and later in the military.

His advice to young players is simple:
"Start at home. Listen to your parents and do what they tell you. Whether you understand it at the time or not, there is success waiting ahead."

From representing Vio Rugby Club as a young boy from Yasawa to winning Olympic Gold for Fiji and competing on the world stage, Tuimaba's journey is proof that great dreams can grow from small islands when matched with faith, discipline, and hard work.

Best Player of the Challenge

Having only joined Vio Rugby Club on Wednesday, he never imagined he would be named Best Player of the Challenge today. Hailing from Kese, Yasawa, his achievement is a testament to dedication, discipline, and hard work.

A self-starter by nature, he has always committed himself to his own training, believing that success comes through preparation long before the spotlight arrives.

Grounded by Psalm 20:7 — “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” — he gives glory to God for this milestone and looks forward to continuing his rugby journey with humility and determination.
