BABASIGA LIONS ROAR INTO TITLE DEFENCE
Defending champions Extra Supermarket Labasa FC enter the 2026 BIC Fiji FACT carrying the hopes of the North and the confidence that comes with being the team to beat.
After capturing their fifth Fiji FACT title in 2025, the Babasiga Lions return to Subrail Park determined to successfully defend their crown in front of their passionate home supporters.
Labasa's success has always been built on the unwavering support of the famous Babasiga faithful, whose presence transforms every match into a sea of red. As tournament hosts, the Lions will once again enjoy strong home support as they chase another memorable Fiji FACT campaign.
Under the guidance of Head Coach Alvin Chand, Labasa has assembled a squad that blends experience, youth, and international quality.
The defending champions have strengthened significantly with the signing of Papua New Guinea internationals Rex Naime and Joseph Joe from Hekari United FC, adding valuable international experience and attacking firepower.
The return of former Ba midfielder Ilaisa Nayasi and the acquisition of experienced former Suva and Ba defender Samuela Navoce further strengthen an already talented squad.
In goal, Labasa will rely on the experienced trio of Simione Tamanisau, Jitoko Vulava, and Joji Vuakaca.
The defensive unit features Iliesa Lino, Simione Ragoneturaga, Iowance Matanisiga, Gerard Avock, Melvin Mani, Lekima Gonerau, Ryan David, and Samuela Navoce. The midfield will be marshalled by Jone Lalagavesi, Ilaisa Nayasi, Ashnil Raju, Navitesh Kumar, Akemi Ralulu, Dan Steiner, and Taniela Waqa, while the attacking department boasts exciting talents including Christopher Wasasala, Jovesa Uqe, Rex Naime, and Joseph Joe.
Few districts can match Labasa's proud Fiji FACT record. The Babasiga Lions have won the prestigious competition five times: 1992, 1997 (joint winners with Ba), 1999, 2015, and 2025.
They have also finished runners-up on a record nine occasions, highlighting their consistency and status as one of Fiji's football traditional powerhouses.
Labasa opens its title defence with a blockbuster clash against Glamada Suva FC on Friday, June 19 at 7.30pm, before facing Navua FC on Saturday, June 20 at 6.00pm.
The final group match sees the Babasiga Lions take on traditional rivals Rewa FC on Sunday, June 21 at 3.00pm in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the tournament.
With home advantage, a strengthened squad, international reinforcements, and the backing of the Northern faithful, Extra Supermarket Labasa FC enters the 2026 BIC Fiji FACT determined to defend its title and add a sixth crown to its impressive roll of honour.
