I always forget to bring my pins where I need them when I’m sewing.

Can you relate?

Because I don’t have a dedicated sewing space at home, I have to spread all the different sewing phases in different rooms of our apartment.

I usually cut my fabric on the floor in our living room, I sew in the kitchen, and I iron in the living room or in my daughter’s room. And if I’m photographing the progress made on the garment, I might have my camera set up in my daughter’s room.

Even though we live in a not-so-big student apartment, I do walk quite a lot of steps when sewing. And my pins are never where I need them, or I forget to bring my pin dish with me to the sewing machine.

That’s why I wanted to make a product for holding pins that would stay in place and be right where I need it.

I thought a pin cushion ring would do the job brilliantly. After I made a couple for myself to test, I thought someone else might find them useful as well.

I will offer limited quantities of these handmade pin cushion rings in my shop. (Shop opening on Aug, 31st) There will be 4 pin cushion colors (white, black, yellow & frost green) and 2 ring colors (gold & silver) to choose from.

Which color is your favorite?

How important is product packaging to you?

I’m not looking for luxury packaging myself when I buy a product, but I do appreciate a good packaging that does its job protecting the product when being delivered. Ideally a good package can also be used to store and protect the product when it’s not in use.

With the products I’ll sell, I’m also looking for a uniform minimalist look. However, I try to avoid packaging when it’s not necessary. Some products will only need some tissue paper around them or be put inside a glassine bag, and some products won’t necessarily need even that.

Like with any crafts, using the materials you already have are the most sustainable. I try to go by this also with packaging and be as eco-friendly as I can. I will use materials that I already had before opening my shop, such as clear packaging tape, and I’ll reuse materials I receive in parcels, such as bubble wrap.

These pictures include examples of the sort of packaging I use (without product labels). It’s all made by me with the help of my Cricut and assembled by me. 👍 or 👎?

🧶 Has crafting ever affected you negatively? While I believe any type of crafting is a great way to enhance one's wellbeing...

I can say that for the past few weeks knitting towards a deadline was stressful. I mean, I loved designing and knitting the sweater, but I had to knit so much every day that it started to take a toll on me.

🌲That's why it was so refreshing to go into a forest last Sunday with my family and breathe the fresh air, walk, talk, and take some pictures of this Hiding Place jumper I managed to finish by the deadline. 🥳 It felt like a celebration after all the hard work put in the knitting and designing and for the entire course. 🙌

What do you do if you notice any negative effects of stressing over crafting? How do you celebrate after finishing a project?

I was completely exhausted yesterday, and was lucky enough to be able to take time to recover from the stress and the forest walk. Btw, we didn't walk maintained, marked routes. We headed for the rough terrain so I was pretty sore. 😅 Luckily today I was able to continue working on one of the two last school projects. ☀️

🌱🧶 Something's hiding in the shade of my spider plant...

🌲It's the back piece of my Hiding Place jumper that's grown so much during the past few days. I'm in a bit of a hurry, though. My partner has agreed to go take pictures of the jumper with me later this week, and this should, ideally, be ready to "hand in" on Wednesday next week. 😬🙈😅

🧶 If you haven't followed this project on my feed and stories, this is a course project for uni and I'm already so proud of myself for taking on this project of designing my first ever knit jumper pattern.

If I release this as a pattern at some point, I realize this detail on the back isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. But that's ok, and it can easily be left out. 😉☀️ Do you like a bit of playfulness in your knitwear? Some fun detail or a surprising element that maybe others can't see?

🧶🌱 The start of something new 💕

I'll cast on the stitches for my first ever jumper design this evening. I have preliminary instructions written for my size to get me started but I'm sure there will be some tweaking ahead. ☺️

🧶🧵⚒ Day 30 of March Meet the Maker, 'Range'

☀️ Here are the items from the product family I designed and made for a course last fall. The project bag and knitting needle case I made using chenille technique, and the yarn box is laser cut. I have shared all these items previously in my feed, but for today's prompt I wanted to share this picture I took for the cover of the report I also needed to hand in. It was certainly a time consuming project but I learned so much.

☀️ I missed a couple of days of the challenge because I took care of my little patient. But she's all better now so I'll try to catch up with the missing prompts. I can't believe March is almost over... 🌱

⭐ A tip for incorporating simple and relaxing crafting in your busy schedule: threading beads. 🧵⚪

(Wooden) beads and a piece of string or elastic can be turned into so many pretty things - necklaces and bracelets, keychains, or decor for your home either on their own or as part of a macramé piece. Bring along your kids to have fun and practice motor skills at the same time. Just remember to tie a loose knot at one end or tape the end securely to the working surface to prevent the beads from falling off. 😊 Also, try alternating your dominant and non-dominant hand for the threading - which way is easier or is there no difference?

I started this little bead project last weekend as a way to relax. 😌 The macramé wall hanging I made a while back inspired me - I didn't have the heart to remove some of the green tassels, at least not yet. Can you guess where this string of beads with a tassel is going to be hung? How would you use beads to decorate your home? 📿

This post is a continuation to my series of sneaky peeks. 😉 Here's my sample of the second version of my upcoming skirt pattern. (It has pockets! 🙌)

With this blooming blouse I wish you a happy Tuesday! 💐🌞 What was/is on your agenda today? I'm making good use of the pomodoro method today as I have quite a bit of writing and editing to do. 🍅💪

In case you were wondering if this is yet another sneak peek of my patterns: Yes, it is. 😊

Interested in testing sewing patterns? 🙋 I'm working on two tulip-inspired sewing patterns, a blouse and a skirt, and I'm now in need of pattern testers. 🌷 Both patterns have two variations, so there are quite a few options to choose from.

The patterns are drafted for a so-called pear shaped figure. You can find the size chart and read more about the pattern testing over on my blog. Follow the link in my bio and click 'Call for pattern testers!'.

You can request the link to my pattern tester signup form by sending me a dm here on Instagram or email at johanna(at)knitlishandsew.com .

Looking forward to hearing from you! 🌞
