A word of appreciation from our chief of competition, Asko Viitanen. He reflects on a successful week, says thanks to all the partners that made Fin5 Salla 2026 possible and of course also a big thanks to all the volunteers and participants. A warm welcome to Fin5 2027 in Lappeenranta and we hope to see you again in Salla.

Today we meet Nuria Calvo Segovia, D40A, and Antonio Hernandez, H36L, who both travelled 4000km from Spain to Salla. Every year they travel to a new country to learn more about orienteering, and this year they visited FIN5 for the first time.

‘It’s a really nice race and it’s really good to orienteer in different terrains, in different kind of forests. If you have run in one forest in Spain, you have seen all the forest in Spain. But this is different,’ Antonio says. Nuria agrees, laughs and says ‘we don’t have any swamps in Spain!’

Also the map is different. ‘In Spain, all the features are on the map and I dont have to use a compass.’ Antonio says. ‘Over here, only the most important anthill or stone is on the map, which makes it hard to read. And it was important to use the compass.’

‘But the terrain is beautiful here. And the weather is perfect. Spain is hot and noisy. Over here, it’s sereen. We also enjoyed the sauna in the evening.’

After FIN5 they will enjoy the silence of the Tuntsa Wilderness area before going back home to the heat. They invite everybody to come to Spain: ‘we have good orienteering weather, also in winter!’

At the finish line, you'll find Saana Viitanen, course setter for both day 1&5 for the kids tracks. She is waiting for 'her' finishers, giving them a warm welcome back.

"Every day had a different style because all course setters have a different signature. But we had happy faces every day."

RR and TR is only in the Nordic orienteering and Saana explains it lowers the threshold to go into the forest alone. "It's a bit easier, safer and gives them comfort while taking their first steps into orienteering."

We talk to all the kids and take care of them. "Off course every kid comes with their family, but now (at the end of the week) it feels like we are all one big FIN5 family."

(EN ⬇️) Ensi vuonna FIN 5 suuntaa Sallan tuntureilta Kaakkois-Suomen supparikkaisiin metsiin Lappeenrantaan!

Keski- ja pitkät matkat suunnistetaan vauhdikkaassa ja hyväkulkuisessa maastossa, jossa lukemattomat supat palkitsevat tarkkuuden m***a rankaisevat herpaantumisesta.

Viikkoon kuuluu myös sprinttikilpailu Lappeenrannan kaduilla – kaupungissa, joka isännöi vuoden 2028 sprinttisuunnistuksen SM-kilpailuja.

Helppo saavutettavuus Helsingistä ja viisi unohtumatonta suunnistuspäivää. FIN5 2027 Lappeenrannan koju löytyy markkinatorilta. Käväise kysäisemässä tänään sieltä vinkit ensi vuoteen. Nähdään ensi kesänä FIN5 2027 Lappeenrannassa!

From the forest filled fells of Salla to the depression filled forests of south-eastern Finland. FIN5 2027 is heading to Lappeenranta!

Expect a completely different challenge. The middle and long distances will take you into fast, runnable terrain filled with countless depressions, where speed is rewarded, but losing concentration can be costly.
