Pakistan Cricket and Politics — Please Keep Them Separate 🏏🇵🇰

Pakistan’s cricket team is currently in England, and I genuinely believe this team has the ability to play much better cricket. But the problem is that the players seem to be under far too much political pressure.

It feels like Pakistan’s cricket team has gone to England not only to play cricket, but as if they are somehow expected to represent Imran Khan Sahib’s political cause as well.

I have seen posts and discussions about players walking through the Lord’s gallery and supposedly “ignoring” pictures of Imran Khan, with people questioning why the players are not reacting or raising their voices for him.

Imran Khan Sahib is a hero to many Pakistanis, and of course everyone who believes in justice should want him to receive justice. But this is not the responsibility of our cricket players while they are representing Pakistan on the cricket field.

They have gone to England to play cricket. Their responsibility is to focus on the game, perform for Pakistan, and win matches. They should not be expected to turn cricket grounds or stadiums into places for political statements.

We are living in the age of social media, and the players are seeing these posts, podcasts and discussions too. Imagine the pressure and confusion it can create for them: Are they supposed to focus on cricket, or are they expected to discuss and represent a political issue?

Politics is a separate matter. Cricket is a separate matter.

If we want to discuss Imran Khan Sahib’s case, his rights, or the political situation in Pakistan, there are plenty of platforms for that discussion. Let’s have those conversations separately instead of bringing political pressure into the cricket ground.

Let our players concentrate on what they went there to do:

Play cricket for Pakistan. 🇵🇰
Give 100%. 🏏
And make the country proud.
