KIM HALLIWELL SHELTER CLOSURE
Having seen the ongoing posts written by Kim Halliwell since the closure of the premises at Antas I want to provide a factual and accurate understanding of why this has happened.
Whether you are an adopter of one of Kim’s dogs (like myself), a fundraiser or a supporter PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY.
Several years ago I made the decision to support Kim despite her previous reputation and record within animal rescue. I honestly thought I could help her and spent many hours fundraising and providing considerable financial support on the proviso that numbers were kept at manageable levels. I was one of her very loyal supporters. I always visit the rescues I help at least once a year to review my ongoing fundraising activities and realistic levels of support I can give. Three weeks ago I came to Spain sensing matters were not right at the Halliwell shelter.
I made an unscheduled call late in the afternoon on Monday 13th November 2023 with others. Although Kim was not present we gained legitimate access and what I saw with my own eyes was horrific and extremely distressing even for me as a former Police officer. I have never witnessed such levels of cruelty. I went from cage to cage and photographed starving, emaciated and severely malnourished dogs. Many dogs were without water and living in complete filth and excrement. The overcrowding was so bad that some dogs were restricted for movement. I saw a dog about to lose his ulcerated eye due simply to lack of medical attention. I witnessed a blind Podenco in a mixed kennel disadvantaged to fend for food with other hungry dogs. The worst was two of Kim’s dogs left in a dark wooden crate 3 metres x 2 metres where they had been for 5 days. Their poor helpless faces still haunt me. The hardest thing to do was to walk away and leave them in this predicament. I am not afraid to admit when I returned to the hotel emotion got the better of me and I cried my eyes out.
Due to the co ordinated efforts of many and the actions of Seprona all these animals have been taken into care. I would personally like to thank everyone who has played a part in this major logistical rescue operation it has undoubtedly required an enormous amount of effort and resource to save these dogs. Sadly not all have been so lucky.
Please remember I witnessed this personally, I am not making this up. I feel now entitled to comment, like many others my efforts and good intentions to help have been betrayed. Good will come from bad. What continues to be written on Facebook by Kim Halliwell are lies and inaccuracies . I have asked this to be shared and circulated to prevent any re occurrence and suffering caused by this individual again and to set the record straight. I can assure you it gives me no pleasure whatsoever to have to write this.
What needs to now happen is for people to get behind the rescues that have taken responsibility for the welfare and care of the cats and dogs as they strive to rehome them.
Yours in rescue
Neil Faudemer
