Our first farm-made goodies are here — beautifully packed almonds and a jar of pure, organic body butter. A tiny taste of what our land can create, and I’m so proud of it.

Another 2 trees harvested. Once harvested it’s time to process.

Outer husks removed. This will be used in our log burner over winter. Nothing gets wasted.

Separate the dry and wet almonds.

Dry almonds are to use. Wet almonds hang in the airing net to dry. Stopping the boars getting to them.

And apparently Maya LOVES almonds. She likes cracking the shells and eating the nuts. She watched every almond land in the dry pile lol

We finally harvested our first ever almond tree today, and very excited about it 😆 I picked the smallest tree with the fewest almonds on it — just in case my technique was… let’s say experimental. A proper shaker is on the way, but I couldn’t wait any longer, so yes, I used a rake.

The hulls have been split open on our trees (and everyone else’s) for weeks. Online they say harvest at about 90% hull split, so I kept wondering why no one around us was harvesting. Turns out, here in our area, farmers wait until the hulls dry so much they peel almost completely back. It lets the almonds dry naturally on the tree instead of having to sun‑dry them afterwards.

But the wild boars don’t wait for anything. One visited just the other night, and if we leave almonds on the ground, they’ll happily help themselves. So today was the day.

We shook the tree, watched the almonds fall into the net, admired the hulls popping open, cracked a few to see the hard shell inside, and even compared an old almond to a fresh one — the difference is nuts! 😂

From this tiny tree we got 645g (without the weight of the bowl 😂), and considering we haven’t watered or fed the trees at all this year, every gram feels like a bonus.

Next step: homemade almond milk. I’ve been looking forward to experimenting!

Still buzzing from last night. Full eclipse, over 50 meteors, and the Milky Way so massive and bright it didn’t fit in one frame — I had to shoot it in three. Absolutely unforgettable.

Tonight was unreal. We were exactly in the 100% total eclipse path, so we headed up a hill with friends to watch it — and WOW. Totality hit and the whole world changed. The sky dimmed, the corona exploded into view, and everyone just stood there with goose bumps. With the rest of the crowd cheering.

We took some amazing pics, but the feeling… impossible to capture.
Now we’re camped out waiting for the meteor shower to kick off. August skies are showing off tonight.
❤️
