This Sunday, April 19, the Cooltec Cup 2026 arrives at Parque Verano Azul at 09:30 AM. Organized by Nerja United Walking Football Club, the tournament celebrates local sportsmanship while raising vital funds for AFADINE, a charity dedicated to the inclusion and well-being of individuals with special needs in the Axarquía region.

The event is sponsored by Cooltec Services, a local firm with 20 years of experience and a founding sponsor of the club since 2022. Through the leadership of Nerja player Keith Bucknell, the tournament will support AFADINE’s mission to provide therapeutic programs, family guidance, and advocacy for accessibility in Nerja.

Everyone is invited to support the cause and enjoy the local hospitality:

Pre-Match: Laureles Café opens at 8:00 AM for snacks.

Post-Match: Celebrations move to Laureles Café for live music, refreshments, a community paella, and the official trophy presentations.

Join us for a day of competitive football and community solidarity.

Both AWFL league matches have been cancelled this weekend. Sunday will be a friendly social walking football session with mini games. Gates open for 10:30 for an 11:00am start.

What an incredible turnout for the very first Nerja United Open Golf Tournament!
From the first tee to the final dart, it was a day to remember. We couldn't have asked for better weather or a better group of people. The banter on the course was top-tier, and the celebration at PJ’s was the perfect finish—huge thanks for the fantastic buffet and a legendary darts session! 🎯

Match Report

Competa Over 60’s v Nerja Over 60’s

A fantastic contest at a sunny high altitude ground saw two evenly matched sides battle it out in an entertaining encounter between Competa Over 60’s and Nerja Over 60’s.

Both teams started brightly, showing great energy and commitment. Competa struck first with a superb long-range effort that flew past the keeper to make it 1–0.

Nerja responded 10 minutes later in style, Keith produced a moment of magic, looping the ball over the keeper and into the top left-hand corner to level the score at 1–1 going into half-time.

The second half began with Competa playing an excellent through ball, and Paul Leveridge for Nerja matched the pace of his opponent brilliantly before challenging from the side. The referee deemed it worthy of a blue card, reducing Nerja to five outfield players. Nerja showed tremendous resilience during this period, defending resolutely until they were restored to six players.

Once back to full strength, Competa regained the lead with a superb strike from the left-hand side, making it 2–1.

Competa then accumulated four running offences, conceding a penalty. Tony Wells stepped up confidently and converted from the spot to bring Nerja level at 2–2.

Soon after, it was Nerja’s turn to concede four running offences, handing Competa a penalty opportunity. Although the kick was converted, it was disallowed by the referee for being taken incorrectly.

Late in the game, a 50/50 clash occurred around 20 yards from goal. While Competa appeared to pause, Nerja played to the whistle. Tony Wells reacted quickest, seizing the opportunity and firing home to give Nerja a 3–2 lead.

Nerja defended strongly for the remaining two minutes to secure the win.

Congratulations to both teams on a closely contested match — a draw would arguably have been a fair result on the day. Thanks also to the referee for an excellent performance.

Well done Nerja — a great team effort! 👏
