We literally have to work at getting the habits ingrained into our kids from a young age.

Chances are if you have a poor diet then your kids will follow 😕

Let it be normal to cook healthy wholesome meals at home. Teach them with every meal to add colour (veg). I promise you this will become their normal. 💓

Doesnt mean that they can't enjoy pizza, fries or whatever else. It just means these types of food is occasional, perhaps when you eat out ❤️ but if eating out is more than once a week occurrence, then we need to teach our children to chose healthier options 🙌

From a very young age i used to actively talk about the powers of veg lol! Kids love powers haha it works. Ie. Carrots helps you see in the dark. Spinach makes you so strong 💪 etc! I'd let let them cook and ask how do you want to feel today? They'd say "today i want to fart alot so I'm adding beans!" 🤣🤣

Anyway, the point is we made it fun! As they've gotten older, i would explain the benfits of each veg or fruit a little more. So its age appropriate. Teenagers are obsessed with good skin, so now when cooking food, the conversation is like, that's so high in vitamin c and will give you glowy skin! 👌

The point is, kids do engage and listen, but they WATCH and learn from us. It starts at home, it takes time and doesn't happen overnight. If you've not put in the work to teach, then its highly unlikely in todays society kids can grow up with a healthy outlook 😬

They know whats good and bad for them. The schools teach them that. But unfortunately by that time kids will often already have developed a palate where fries taste amazing and vegetables are something they dislike even if they know they should have them. Couple that with a lack of parental awareness on how to prepare nutritious balanced meals, our children suffer 😭

Habits are behavious, and changing behaviours take time. In a world where its so difficult to eat healthy, it has to start at home😋

This last couple of weeks, few clients are on a calorie deficit and I just wanted to share this as it may be useful.👍

Working out a calorie deficit (how much you should eat per day to lose weight) can be tricky for people to work out.

The amount you lose will also give you a better idea of how much of a calorie deficit you are truly in. See the picture for details. If eating 1600 caories but you are losing 2.lbs per week, then you are actually in a deficit of more than 1000 calories which is unnecessary. 👍

❌️ ️ if you are losing MORE than 1lb PER WEEK and you are NOT WEIGHT TRAINING you are likely to be losing muscle especially if you are over 40.

❌️ Though it might feel good seeing the numbers go down, your results will not look the way you imagine 😞

✅️So for my clients who want to lose more than the recommended amount per week, this is what we are concentrating on and monitoring per week:

1. Protein intake
2. Training sessions, keeping strength & intensity on lifts as minimum so not getting weaker (will ensure we don't risk muscle loss)
3. Keeping an eye on if your sleep gets affected
4. Monitor your mood and energy levels

Though the message here might be harsh, the truth is, he is correct. Getting good at the basics over time is how we get results. Results are what people want but its also important to find a method that keeps you consistant with a training plan 💯

Repitition of key movements improves the ability of the central nervous system to recruit motor units more efficiently which in turn improves our results 💥

However, this doesn't mean we can't add in some variety. Training people i realise they need to have some 'fun' elements too. Everyones idea of 'fun' is different and a good trainer should be able to find what makes their client tick 🙌

So what i do to get the best out of my clients is do the basics of course, but sprinkle in some new/novel exercises inbetween their compound exercises where suitable to keep them engaged. 💪

This way we cover all grounds and keep clients consistent which is key to any progress 👌
