The image is Every surfers worst nightmare!
Over the falls backwards at huge Teahupoo, Tahiti.
The surfer was Rodrigo Reinoso from Peru who incredibly escaped with out sustaining serious injury!
This was one of a series of swells late May 2022 to implode upon the islands of French Polynesia.
The next swell three days later it was myself ( including camera gear) and several colleagues who also faced the the wrath of Teahupoo when we thrown out of our boat when caught inside a large set!
Fortunately no one was injured we just incurred a loss of camera equipment and a few irreplaceable images.
A Teahupoo tax !
This image is unique in its impact as it resonates with anyone with an understanding and respect of the power of the ocean.
It is one of my powerful surf related images of my career , which is well in to its fifth decade now!

When you’re trying to sneak your way into a bomb set and the wind just won’t quite let you. In fairness told me that after I missed this one and he caught it, he nearly got eaten alive and seeing how much deeper I was than him at this moment, it was probably a blessing in disguise that I didn’t catch it! In the moment I was pretty annoyed by missing it though!

Caught some dirty lickens yesterday and paid to play. Hoping more playing today! In all seriousness, what an amazing day of action and grateful to make it in safe. Caught a few nice ones and stoked to whiteness some insane waves up close and personal. PC 📸
