To every woman and every girl on International Women’s Day:
I come from a generation where women had already gained many rights, but gender inequality was still everywhere. I witnessed women close to me not being given the respect they deserved, being underestimated simply because they were women, treated as if they were not capable enough, not “at the level” of a man, or as if certain jobs or positions were not meant for them just because of their gender.
We had to learn to raise our voices just to be heard. We had to work twice as hard to prove our worth. And many times, simply for speaking our minds, we were called “crazy,” “difficult,” or “hysterical.”
But we kept going. We kept pushing. We kept breaking barriers.
Today, we have come a long way, and I’m proud of how far women have come. Yet there is still a road ahead of us. I also feel deeply grateful to have been born in a country where women are free and have rights, because I know that for millions of women around the world, that is still not their reality.
So to every woman who is still fighting for her voice, her freedom, and her dignity: don’t give up. Your courage matters. Your voice matters. And you are not alone.
We see you. We stand with you. Today and always 💜✊
