MOUTHFILL
Recently I was in Moscow. The original plan was that Pete will come with, but circumstances were on the way. So one of the reasons I went anyway was the big Mouthfill workshop, that was planned in 2 parts: dry and wet 😏
1st part was a lecture about this type of equalization plus practical exercises, as a 2nd part one day later we had a long session in Moscow deep pool (12m).
What can I say: I work with my mouthfill for years now, and all education I’ve got in this area plays great role. I not only constantly master my EQ, but find the best ways to explain important details, so our students also succeed.
I’ve got to say that many freedivers only think that they perform MF, usually it’s just some extra air stored in their mouth, but technic is pure Frenzel. It takes time to see the difference (I’ve been through this myself), but the result is awesome, so don’t hesitate to find a professional who’s gonna guide you through the learning process.
Few tips from me:
⁃ Make sure you understand the process in theory
⁃ Do the dry exercises. Do. The. Dry. Exercises. Period.
⁃ Mouthfill is about 15-20 precise calculated steps during the dive.
Each one is important, pay attention.
⁃ There are only 2 possible reasons to “swallow”: too much pressure in the cheeks and tensed belly. Most of the time they are both there. Why does it happen? MF doesn’t give strong feedback like Frenzel, so we push harder “just in case”
⁃ If you repeat the same mistake over and over again, “make sure you see a specialist about that”. You will save a lot of time and effort.
