🎳 Before you switch bowling balls... try changing the surface first.

Many bowlers focus on coverstocks and core numbers, but surface is often the biggest factor affecting ball motion.

🔴 Lower grits (180–1000) = Earlier read & more traction

🟡 2000 grit = Balanced benchmark reaction

🟢 Higher grits (3000–4000) = More length & later response

⚠️ More surface doesn't always mean better.
Too much can cause early hook and weak carry.
Too little can cause excessive skid and inconsistent reaction.

The goal isn't the biggest hook...

It's creating the right motion for YOUR speed, rev rate, and lane conditions.

Sometimes one sanding pad can make a bigger difference than a new bowling ball. 🎳

As the Kivelos Athens Bowling Open comes to an end, my heart is truly full of gratitude for the unbelievable kindness, warmth, and love we received in Athens from everyone around us, especially Eva and Mary.

This tournament was beautiful in every possible way… competitive, exciting, emotional, and filled with unforgettable memories. But what made it truly special was the people. The smiles, the support, the positive energy, and the feeling that we were surrounded by family, not just friends.

Thank you so much to every single member of the staff who worked day and night to make this tournament run in such an amazing way. Your effort, patience, and care never went unnoticed, and you made all of us enjoy every single moment in Athens.

A very special thank you to my dear friend Tassos… honestly, some of my happiest memories in Athens were because of you. Thank you for your kindness and your friendship.

And to Katerina and Nephelh… we truly exhausted you 😅 but you never stopped being kind, caring, supportive, and wonderful with us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Athens gave us more than just a tournament… it gave us memories, laughter, friendships, and moments we will never forget.

We truly hope to come back again very soon. ❤️🎳

After a crazy amount of hard work…
sweat…
focus…
practice…
overthinking…
changing balls…
changing surfaces…
changing lines…
and changing my entire personality during transition 😭😂🎳

I’m really proud to say that I qualified in one of the toughest tournaments and hardest oil patterns I’ve ever played in my life: Kivelos Athens Bowling Open 🔥

Around 250 players from all over the world came to compete, which honestly makes qualifying feel even more special to me ❤️🙏

This qualification means a lot because it’s the result of huge effort, consistency, and support from many amazing people who had a big role in helping me reach this moment. Truly thankful for every single one of them 🙏

And seriously… this oil pattern was less “bowling” and more “survival challenge” 😭😂

Now tomorrow is going to be a HUGE and very different day…
Not because of the finals…
Not because of the pressure…

But because we play at 8:00 AM and I still haven’t even started thinking about how I’m supposed to wake up and leave the hotel alive at that hour 😭🤣☕

And after all this emotional speech…
I would proudly like to announce that I qualified from the Desperado 😁😁😁🔥🎳

At the conclusion of the 34th Malta Open Bowling Tournament, we would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Malta Open Championship - Tenpin Bowling SuperBowl and everyone involved in organizing this outstanding event, which was conducted in a truly professional manner reflecting the tremendous effort behind the scenes.

The Egyptian team truly enjoyed the amazing competitive atmosphere throughout the tournament, especially with the unique and challenging oil pattern that added excitement, competitiveness, and made the event even more enjoyable for all players.

A very special thank you to Jessica Borg for everything you have done for us — from helping provide all the necessary documents that enabled us to attend, to your continuous support, kindness, and warm hospitality throughout the tournament.
Your dedication and attention to every detail made a huge difference in our experience.

We would also like to thank the entire hardworking staff and organizing team who worked tirelessly throughout the event to achieve such an exceptional level of organization and professionalism.

A special thanks as well to our dear friend Rick Vogelesang, whom we look forward to seeing soon in Egypt, and to all the Maltese bowlers for their warm welcome and wonderful sportsmanship.

We were also truly honored to have a wonderful visit from the Embassy of Egypt in Malta, attended by Ambassador Dr. Shaimaa Badawy and Deputy Ambassador Dr. Benan El Salamony.
They were incredibly warm, welcoming, and generous with us, and the meeting was honestly one of the best moments we experienced in Malta outside of bowling.

We would like to express our deepest thanks and appreciation to them both. Their kindness, support, and genuine care truly meant a lot to us and made a real difference in our experience during the trip.

The Eden Superbowl is always a fantastic place where we truly enjoy the atmosphere, and we are already looking forward to coming back again soon. 🇪🇬❤️🇲🇹

🎳 Tip of the Day

Master Your Finish at the Foul Line

Your finish position is one of the biggest differences between consistent bowlers and those who struggle with repeatability.

A strong finish improves:
✔ Balance
✔ Accuracy
✔ Consistency
✔ Ball reaction

Focus on these essentials:

🔹 Long & Low Follow-Through – Extend toward your target.
🔹 Weight Over Slide Foot – Stay centered and stable.
🔹 Strong Posture – Head steady over your slide knee.
🔹 Quiet Slide & Trail Leg – Controlled, balanced finish.
🔹 Firm Non-Bowling Arm – Keep shoulders on line.
🔹 Hold Your Finish – Freeze for 2–3 seconds after release.

Practice shadow drills to build muscle memory.

Balance at the line = Control down the lane.

🎳 Tip of the Day

High rev. bowlers Have a Bigger Pocket. Here’s Why.

Most bowlers think the pocket is fixed.
1–3 for righties.
1–2 for lefties.

Simple.

But in reality…
the effective pocket changes.

And hook players have a bigger one.

Here’s the physics.

When the ball enters the pocket at a higher Entry Angle,
two important things happen:

1. Ball deflection decreases:
The ball continues driving through the pins instead of bouncing away.

2. Energy transfer improves:
More of the ball’s kinetic energy is delivered into the pin deck instead of being lost sideways.

Let’s make it clearer:

At 0° entry angle (straight shot),
deflection is high.
Carry margin is small.
The pocket is unforgiving.

At 4°–6° entry angle (strong hook),
deflection drops significantly.
The ball drives through the 5-pin.
The 3-pin takes out the 6.
The margin for error increases.

The pocket didn’t move.

Your geometry changed.

That’s why a hooked shot can strike even when it’s slightly high or slightly light —
while a straight shot needs to be almost perfect.

It’s not about looking powerful.
It’s about creating the right angle.

Angle builds carry.
Carry builds scores.

🎳 Tip of the Day

Stop assuming heavier means stronger.

In bowling, hitting power is not about ego.
It’s about physics.

Kinetic Energy = ½ × Mass × Velocity²

Speed is squared.
Weight is not.

That changes everything.

If increasing ball weight reduces your ball speed —
even slightly —
you may actually lose hitting power.

A 15 lb ball thrown at full, clean speed
can deliver more energy at the pins
than a 16 lb ball you can’t accelerate properly.

Champions don’t choose weight to impress.
They choose weight they can accelerate efficiently.

Power is not how heavy the ball feels in your hand.

Power is how much energy it delivers at impact.

The question isn’t:
“How heavy can you throw?”

The real question is:
“How much energy can you transfer?”

Choose smart

🎳 Tip of the Day

Do you really have bad luck…
or are you just not seeing the truth?

You strike with a messy hit

was that a great sho or just a lucky carry?

You leave a ringing 10-pin —
was that bad luck… or a less-than-perfect pocket hit?

Here’s the uncomfortable truth:

Most “bad luck”
is just feedback from the lane.

• Late 10?
• Weak 7?
• Messenger strike?

Those aren’t random.
They’re information.

Great bowlers adjust —
even after a strike —
if it wasn’t a true pocket hit.

Because champions don’t believe in luck…
they believe in cause and effect.

They don’t blame the lane.
They read it.

They don’t wait for disaster.
They adjust before it happens.

So next time you say “bad luck”…
ask yourself:

Was it really luck —
or was the lane trying to teach you something?
