he part I didn’t say in the video: this is also why every workout I write has a way down.
Not out of kindness. Because I need it myself. When something in my knee says no on a Tuesday, I take the easier option in my own session — and I’d rather build programmes that assume that than pretend nobody has a body with history in it.
If you’re waiting for a knee to be „fixed“ before you start again: you’ll probably wait a long time. Mine isn’t fixed. It’s held together by the muscles around it, and those got there by being used.
By the way, if you’re wondering what this is about: a complex tear in the medial meniscus of my left knee, and cartilage damage on the same side — probably grade four. My legs are bow-legged, so most of the load lands on the inner side of the joint, and that side is far more worn than the outer one. The brace in the first photo is an unloader brace: it shifts the load away from the inner side and out towards the outer.
And the surgery people mean isn’t a small one. It would mean breaking and realigning the lower leg bone — on both sides.
Love, Jana 💛
PS: The strengthening, the balance work, the stretching - none of that is a special knee programme. It’s what we do in the strong & shape club every week, for exactly this reason: so the joints have something holding them.
This weekend is the last one at €17 / $19 for a first month including my 7-day REAL FOOD plan. After Sunday it’s €37 / $39 from month one.
