When Yuri Gagarin journeyed into outer space, Berlin’s Friedrichsfelde neighborhood was a test site for postwar modernism. Preschools, too, for people who would naturally reach for the stars. In 2005, the designers of anschlaege.de saw the utopian potential of the former preschool at Sewanstraße 122. They transformed it into a place where designers, photographers, illustrators, artists and writers

have been working ever since. But Heikonaut is not just a coworking space. The building’s manageable size and the open structure of its architecture guarantee focused work and allow for the exchange of ideas. Here, projects arise where creative disciplines intersect. Printing and model-making shops enable experimentation. The big backyard provides strawberries, recreation and visions that have three-quarters of an acre to unfold in.
