Rope Techniques (Nawa-jutsu / Hojōjutsu in Bujinkan)

Rope skills in Bujinkan come mainly from classical schools like Kukishinden Ryū and Takagi Yōshin Ryū. They focus on:

Torinawa: capturing and restraining

Tekubi-nawa: wrist ties

Haninawa: partial arm bindings

Ashi-nawa: leg ties

Nawa nage: rope throwing or ensnaring

Hojojutsu: formal body bindings used historically for arrests

Rope is used to off-balance, control, tie, transport, or disable an opponent, acting as an extension of taijutsu.

Bujinkan Bōjutsu is the traditional Japanese art of staff fighting practiced within the Bujinkan system founded by Masaaki Hatsumi. It focuses on using the rokushakubō (six-foot staff) through fluid, natural movement, emphasizing timing, distance, and body coordination. Techniques include strikes, thrusts, sweeps, and blocks drawn from ancient samurai and ninja schools such as Kukishin Ryū. The art teaches practitioners to use the staff as an extension of the body—balancing power, control, and adaptability both in combat and daily life.
