RIP
Ammar, We Cry for You
We have lost a Muaythai son.
Ammar Hamayel, a proud member of the Palestinian Muaythai national team was taken from us far too soon, his young life stolen by the cruelty of war.
Ammar was more than an athlete. He was a son, a brother, a teammate, a friend, and a dreamer. With a heart full of courage and a future filled with promise, he trained with discipline, fought with pride, and carried the hopes of his nation with every step. His love for Muaythai was matched only by the warmth, humility, and kindness he brought into the lives of everyone around him.
To lose him to violence, to the brutality of war, is a tragedy beyond comprehension. No child should ever fall to war.
I will forever hold dear the moments we shared with Ammar, especially during our Youth Peace Camp. His laughter, his boundless energy, and his belief in peace and unity lit up every room. He was always the first to arrive at training, the last to leave. He didn’t just want to be a champion in the ring, he wanted to be a champion for life.
My deepest prayers go to his beloved family:
His mother, Fidaa Hamayel
His father, Mutaz Hamayel
His older brother, Mustafa,
And his baby brother, Omar, only 60 days old.
To his teammates, to the Palestine Muaythai community, and to everyone whose life he touched, we mourn together, not as individuals, but as one united Muaythai family.
As the world commemorates Olympic Day, a day dedicated to peace, respect, and inclusion….Ammar’s life was taken. In his honor, IFMA flags will fly at half-mast. Our website will go dark. And on June 25th, during the final of the Asian Championships, we will stop to pay our deepest respects and to remember our brave young soul.
To the soldier/s who pulled the trigger—twice—there is no excuse, no justification. You were not under threat, Ammar stood with his bicycle and a friend. You killed a child. The world must not look away. The world must never forget.
Ammar, you are and always will be an inspiration. Your legacy lives on in our hearts, in our fight for justice, and in our unwavering commitment to a world where children grow up safe, valued, and free.
I promise you this, Ammar:
We will carry your dream forward, a dream of a better, safer, and more just world.
Rest in peace, young warrior.
You will never be forgotten.
