Over the weekeand, i had the priviledge to be a panelist at the International Confereance on Migration and the launch of Chasing or Being Chased? Deconstructing Hegel's Vision of the USA by Rev. Father Basile Sede Noujio.Ph.D.

This was beyond the launching an ordinary book because it culminated in a rich insightful conversations about identity, migration, purpose, and Africa's future based on lived experiences.

I felt honoured to join an inspiring panel of scholars, executives, faith leaders, development practitioners, and civil society representatives to explore a question that continues to shape the lives of millions of Africans:

Are we chasing opportunity, or are we being chased by our circumstances?

Drawing from my book, Finding You: Negotiating Life's Transitions and Upscaling the Whole, which I had the opportunity to present to another wide audience at this conference, I shared a perspective that migration is, first and foremost, a life transition. Like every transition, its outcome depends on the state of the person making the journey.

When migration is driven solely by identity confusion, external pressure, unrealistic expectations, or the need to wear masks, the destination alone cannot produce flourishing and then we find ourselves in the maze. That is the link between "Finding You" and "Chasing or being Chased" as Rev.Fr Basil and Rev.Fr Michel established in their presentations.

One point that generated meaningful discussion was the influence of social media. We often compare our everyday realities with carefully curated moments of luxury and success online. A 30-second video can quietly shape life-changing decisions while hiding the sacrifices, struggles, and complexities behind the scenes. This has aggravated identity crises, killed patience and perseverance in some people (the youths) and shaped perspective to life is general.

As I reminded the audience:

"When you don't know who you are, you cling to everything that feels like identity, even when it is false, harmful or temporary" ~Pg 2 Finding you, and so,the deeper question is whether we leave from a place of purpose or from a place of pressure.

Migration itself is not the problem.Human life it self is a migration to our eternal home...History is filled with movement, exploration, and new beginnings. The focus is on keeping our dignity and identity when we decide to.

My profound appreciation goes to you Rev.Father Basile Sede Noujio.Ph.D and the wonderful organising team for provoking such an important conversation. All the panelists and participants who contributed their experiences and insights, these are the conversations Africa needs as we rethink identity, development, family, and the future of our young people at the dawn of Africa's rebirth.

"The greatest danger to our future is apathy."— Wangari Maathai

Nobody plans to become average or fail.We all dream to be exceptional kings and queens at the least.

However, most of us simply postpone that becoming by lack of intentionality.

"Tomorrow." We say...

Then tomorrow becomes next month.
And next month becomes next year.

And then one day, we realise we are living a life we never chose.
We become one person in public, another in private.
We say one thing and live another.
We chase success while neglecting peace.
Look Successful on the outside and confused on the inside.
We pursue achievement and abandon alignment.

And more often than not,our inner life is split into pieces that no amount of external success can repair.

Life rarely changes in one dramatic moment. It is the small choices we repeat that become our identity.

The conversations we avoid...
The opportunities we ignore...
The habits we excuse...
The values we compromise...
They are all writing the story of the person you are becoming.

The good news is:
The next page is yet to be written.
This week, don't focus only on what you need to accomplish.

Also pay attention to whether you are doing the innerwork of wholeness:

When your thoughts match your words.
Your words match your actions.
And your actions reflect your purpose.

That is not perfection, it is wholeness building up.

This week, don't chase more.

Choose alignment.

At Benk Assist , we believe the greatest transformation is becoming the same person, everywhere everytime.

Have an intentional and impactful week ahead.

THE PERFECTIONIST MASK

Everything he does is excellent, meticulously
planned, flawlessly executed. But what they do not see is the invisible ruler he holds to his own neck
every single day, measuring, assessing, scaling
himself just short of enough everytime.

The perfectionist mask is the most internally punishing of all the masks because the harshest critic is not out there in the world. It is the voice in his own head that never fully applauds, never says "you have done enough, you can rest" and never, ever lets him simply be without requiring him to also perform.

This mask is often forged in childhood, especially in homes where love felt conditional, where approval was tied to results, where mistakes were treated as character failures rather than learning moments. So, the boy decided, quietly and permanently: "I will be excellent so that I am never rejected again." And it worked.

But now the man carries that economy into every relationship, every role, every room and the people closest to him feel permanently evaluated and assessed even if he does not raise a finger. His gift is real, his drive is admirable, but excellence was meant to be an expression of identity and not a substitute for it.

"You are not more valuable when you perform perfectly than when you donot look perfect at all because you were valuable even before you did perform" Excellence is a beautiful pursuit but perfection was never yours to achieve.Only God holds that office"~pg 22...
