And once again, five years have gone by. Time flies, which is why we absolutely must make sure that the time that has passed is put to good use. That time will never come back. I’d like to thank our friends and students who continue to support us and walk the path of “Arte Suave” with us.

Und schon wieder sind fünf Jahre vergangen. Die Zeit läuft, weshalb wir uns unbedingt darum kümmern müssen, dass die vergangene Zeit auch richtig genutzt wurde. Diese Zeit kommt nicht zurück. Ich möchte mich bei unseren Freunden und Schülern bedanken, die uns weiterhin unterstützen und den Weg der «Arte Suave» mit uns gehen.

*Ivan Stort – über 32 Jahre Vacirca Jiu-Jitsu und heute Schwarzgurt 4. Grad*

Am Montag war ein besonderer Tag: Nach über 32 Jahren Gracie Jiu-Jitsu habe ich Ivan Storto, einen meiner ältesten und talentiertesten Schüler, zum Schwarzgurt 4. Grad ernannt.
Zusammen mit Nikos Bachzetsis, Martin Hardmeier, Daniel Bachofen, Domenic Schnoz und Christian Boras gehört er auch zu den ersten Faixa Pretas des Team Vacirca in Zürich. Seite an Seite sind wir diesen Weg gegangen, und heute profitieren die neuen Generationen von seinem Wissen. Ivan ist nicht nur dem Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu treu geblieben, sondern hat sich auch im Judo weiterentwickelt. An der Seite seines Sohnes erkannte er bald die Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede beider Disziplinen. Für ihn ergab es sich, beide Wege zu gehen, was er auch heute noch tut.
Wir und insbesondere die neuen Generationen können uns an solchen Menschen orientieren und sie als wahre Vorbilder nutzen. Sie sind greifbar und einzigartig. Menschen, die diesen Weg so lange gegangen sind, werden immer seltener. Deshalb sind wir Ivan dankbar, dass wir mit ihm trainieren können.
Ich für meinen Teil bin stolz, einen solchen Menschen zu kennen, und freue mich darauf, bald mit ihm auf dem Tatami zu sein. Unsere besten Glückwünsche, mein Freund …

*Ivan Stort – over 32 years of Vacirca Jiu-Jitsu and now a 4th-degree black belt*

Monday was a special day: After more than 32 years of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, I promoted Ivan Stort, one of my oldest and most talented students, to 4th-degree black belt.
Along with Nikos Bachzetsis, Martin Hardmeier, Daniel Bachofen, Domenic Schnoz, and Christian Boras, he is also one of the first Faixa Pretas of Team Vacirca in Zurich. We have walked this path side by side, and today the new generations are benefiting from his knowledge. Ivan has not only remained loyal to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu but has also continued to develop his skills in Judo. Training alongside his son, he soon recognized the similarities and differences between the two disciplines. For him, it made sense to pursue both paths, which he continues to do today.
We – and especially the younger generations – can look to people like him and see them as true role models. They are relatable and one-of-a-kind. People who have walked this path for so long are becoming increasingly rare. That’s why we’re grateful to Ivan for giving us the opportunity to train with him.
For my part, I’m proud to know someone like him, and I look forward to being on the tatami with him soon. Our best wishes, my friend …

*8 September 1930:* We celebrate the 96th anniversary of the Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Rio de Janeiro today.
It was founded by Master Donato Pires dos Reis. Carlos and George Gracie assisted him.
While it was not the first Jiu-Jitsu school in Rio, a few years later Pires gave it to Carlos Gracie when he left for southern Brazil.
George Gracie left around the same time to join his new Jiu-Jitsu teacher and business partner, the Japanese master Geo Omori, in São Paulo.
Shortly after, Hélio Gracie joined to help his brother Carlos and began teaching. Pedro Hemetério, one of the first two black belts under Carlos Gracie, joined Hélio to assist with teaching the classes.
96 years on, and the story continues...

*8. September 1930:* Wir feiern heute den 96. Jahrestag der Jiu-Jitsu-Akademie in Rio de Janeiro.
Sie wurde von Meister Donato Pires dos Reis gegründet. Carlos und George Gracie standen ihm zur Seite.
Zwar war sie nicht die erste Jiu-Jitsu-Schule in Rio, doch überliess Pires sie einige Jahre später Carlos Gracie, als er nach Südbrasilien aufbrach.
George Gracie verliess die Schule etwa zur gleichen Zeit, um sich seinem neuen Jiu-Jitsu-Lehrer und Geschäftspartner, dem japanischen Meister Geo Omori, in São Paulo anzuschliessen.

Hier hat mein Freund Grigori sehr gut beobachtet: Mit dieser Technik schütze ich meinen Kopf und meinen Nacken beim Abtauchen, um zum Rücken zu gelangen! Ausserdem finde ich den „Escrima”-Dill hervorragend für ein solches Jiu-Jitsu-Training. Keep it real! -Franco

My friend Grigori made a very good observation here: I use this technique to protect my head and neck when diving down to get behind my opponent! I also think the “Escrima” drill is excellent for this kind of Jiu-Jitsu training. Keep it real! -Franco

I miss my home there and hope to get back soon again to feel the place.

Great time with Master Carlos, and Master Rigan and Master John.

You can lose everything in life, but not Jiu-Jitsu. It will last we you for ever.

I am very proud to inform you that Gracie Concepts is one of the top representative academies at the BJJFL under Master Sergio Malibu, who is under Master Rickson Gracie and holds an 8th degree Coral belt.

We have maintained our legacy of almost 35 years with the authentic Gracie tradition. We have never changed our affiliation for mere opportunities; we have always remained true to the source of GM Hélio Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.

We believe in a solid, structured G/BJJ program because our students deserve the best. We are ever thankful to our masters and mentors, such as Rorion Gracie, Royce Gracie, and Rickson Gracie, as well as GM Joe Moreira and GM Pedro Hemetério.
