🌊 Battling the waves and a world-class field of competitors 🌍
At the second stop of the Open Water World Cup 2026 in Ibiza, the Swiss team delivered good performances under extremely challenging conditions. Cold water and heavy waves shaped the races, leading to numerous DNFs and disqualifications.
In the men’s 10 km race on Friday, the Swiss athletes proved their competitiveness in a world-class field. Christian Schreiber led the Swiss team with a strong 29th-place finish in 1:53:59.6, just 1:19 behind the winner. Paul Niederberger followed closely in 33rd place (1:54:05.0, +1:25), while Nolan Carrel delivered a solid performance in 41st (1:56:05.9), staying with the lead group until the final lap, and Kilian Carrel completed the team result in 45th (2:01:27.8). With only 67 of 99 starters reaching the finish, the race once again highlighted its extreme difficulty, making the Swiss results all the more impressive 💪🌊
In the women’s race, Anna finished 45th in 2:15:01.4, followed by Emma in 47th place in 2:16:10.9. Both athletes showed great resilience, managing their races well despite the challenging environment and gaining valuable experience at the highest international level.
