The YouRef project partners came together in Orléans for the 3rd Transnational Project Meeting

Progress, next steps, and preparations for the Educational Programme and Pilot phase were at the heart of the discussions.

📚 Referee Development Spotlight

At YouRef, we are committed to helping young referees grow and develop. One useful resource is:
“The Game Management Framework for Sports Refereeing: a structured perspective on officiating performance and its development” (Hoffmann, MacMahon & Brand, 2024).

This framework highlights the essential concepts (rules knowledge, contextual judgment, positioning, communication) and skills (decision-making, presence, guiding the game) that referees need, while also emphasizing the importance of the referee’s mindset.

By combining these elements, referees can strengthen their game management competence and improve their overall officiating performance.

🧑‍⚖️ Meet IFSO – The International Federation for Sports Officials 🌍
IFSO is a global organization dedicated to improving and supporting the role of referees, umpires, judges, and technical officials across all sports. Through education, certification, and advocacy, IFSO helps raise standards in sports officiating while promoting ethics, fairness, and inclusion.
With experience from grassroots to international competitions, IFSO offers training, shares best practices, and supports the development of new pathways for officials.
📚 In the YouRef project, IFSO plays a vital role in shaping the educational content, drawing on their expertise and wide network to support the recruitment and training of young sports officials across Europe.

🌍✨ The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games wrapped up more than a month ago – but the memories are still alive!
🙌 Over 400 ITOs including 18 young referees (under 30) stepped onto the international stage, proving that passion and professionalism can go hand in hand.
💪 They guaranteed fair play, showed incredible dedication, and reminded us all: refereeing is about more than rules – it’s about leadership and opportunity.
🔗 Through the YouRef Erasmus+ Sport project, we celebrate these referees and their inspiring journey in sport.
👏 Thank you, referees, for making Rhine-Ruhr 2025 unforgettable!
