Injured, terrified, and barely alive, she reminds Tom of the women he once rescued years ago along the Broken Trail. Haunted by those memories, he realizes he cannot simply ride away.
Taking Elena under his protection, Tom heads toward the nearest settlement — a small frontier town preparing for its first Christmas celebration in years. There, he reunites with Dr. Lillian Reeves (Hilary Swank), a compassionate doctor who has built a quiet life helping others despite the harshness surrounding her. Between Tom and Lillian remains a complicated history filled with unspoken feelings and roads never taken.
Sam Elliott appears as Marshal Grant, a calm and wise lawman who warns Tom that the dangerous men searching for Elena are drawing closer with every passing day.
As snowstorms deepen and danger approaches, the town comes together to hide Elena, care for her wounds, and prepare for the inevitable confrontation. Lanterns glow through frosted windows.
