Research consistently shows that young people who participate in team sports report:
• Higher self-esteem
• Better mental health outcomes
• Stronger social skills
• Greater academic engagement

But those benefits only happen when kids feel safe enough to stay.

At Stay in the Game, we focus on creating a space where youth feel included, supported, and confident stepping onto the court — even on hard days.

The Firefly Family Resilience Project likely refers to the Family Resilience Project offered by the fYrefly Institute at the University of Alberta, which provides free, short-term counselling to sexual and gender diverse children, youth (up to 24 years old), and their families in Alberta. This project is part of a broader initiative by the fYrefly Institute to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community through education, research, and community services to foster resilience and leadership.
