Agoojin Volleyball Connecting female and two-spirit indigenous youth to volleyball in Manitoba

Agoojin is an Indigenous led program connecting First Nation and Metis athletes who identify as female or two-spirit with all levels of volleyball. Agoojin takes care to work alongside Nations, and to make programming both accessible and high quality. By maintaining a high coach to athlete ratio and doing outreach, we try to connect with as many athletes as possible. Agoojin delivers province-wide programming and recruitment for Volleyball, as we can.

Congratulations to the recipients of Agoojin’s inaugural ALLARD MEMORIAL BURSARIES:

🤍🪽Adrian Allard was an avid sports fan, athlete and outdoorsman. Raised by a single mother alongside his sister in the heart of Treaty 1, volleyball was where he truly found his community. Adrian’s younger sister, Averie Allard, shared this love for volleyball, playing at the University of Saskatchewan where for 6 seasons while obtaining her teaching degree through a Metis-specific program. For the last few years Averie has been playing professionally overseas in Italy, Switzerland, Serbia and currently Hungary. In the Summer she competes internationally with the Canadian National team.
In 2016, when Adrian was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, the volleyball community rallied around their family. It was also the volleyball community who rallied around Averie as she grieved the loss of her brother. For these reasons and more, Averie and her mother are glad to give back to help other Indigenous youth access the opportunities she had in order to achieve their athletic dreams.
