TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE | GRADING DAY 🥋

This Saturday is a special one.

Not only are we celebrating the technical growth of our students, September 19 marks five years of NEO on Fisherman Drive, five years as a standalone team, and five years serving the Brampton community.

There will be new belts. There will be stripes. There will be a lot of milestones worth celebrating.

🥋 Kids Grading — 10:00 AM
🥋 Adults Grading — 12:00 PM
⚪⚫ White or black gi only. Coaches, please wear white.

And if you’re not being promoted this time, come anyway.

Learning to celebrate someone else’s progress is part of your own growth. Support your teammates. Recognize the work they’ve put in. Your day will come too, and when it does, they’ll be there for you.

Then we eat. 😂 Bring a dish and stick around after grading as we celebrate five years together.

We didn’t send this team out to chase medals. We sent them to compete, to show up for each other, and to find out what they’re capable of.

Every corner was full before every match this weekend. Teammates cheering, coaches coaching, families up before the sun. That’s where the confidence actually comes from, not the outcome.

The medals happened anyway. That’s what tends to follow when the culture is right first.

Three years. Same tournament. A very different NEO.

In 2024, we stood on top of the GTA Classic podium—1st in Kids and 1st Overall.

But NEO wasn’t standing alone.

We still had our Woodbridge academy, our Oakville affiliate, and competed as part of one of Canada’s strongest affiliations.

Then came 2025.

For the first time, we flew our own flag.

One academy. One team. NEO.

We finished just outside the podium—4th in Kids and 4th Overall Gi—and went back to work.

Earlier this year, 56 NEO athletes finished 4th Overall at the Ontario Open, behind three major affiliations whose points are generated across multiple academies.

It was a sign of things to come.

Four months later, we returned to the GTA Classic:

🥉 3rd Overall — Kids
🥈 2nd Overall — Gi (Adults & Kids)

This time, as a single standalone academy.

That’s what makes this one special.

We’ve built a culture where recreational students train beside competitors, teammates develop teammates, and roughly one in four NEO students actively competes.

And this weekend, World Champion Coach Quentin showed what that pathway can produce:

Among 700+ athletes, he was named the 2026 GTA Classic Top Performer.

The trophies are cool. The rankings matter.

But what they represent matters more.

2024 showed us what was possible together.
2025 tested what we could build independently.
2026 is showing us what can be built from within.

And we’re nowhere near finished.

Back to school means a lot of new faces walking through our doors.

So we asked ourselves a simple question:

Because joining a martial arts academy shouldn’t mean being handed a uniform and left to figure everything else out.

Our newest members will be the first to receive these this week, and we’re ridiculously excited to put them in their hands.

This is what Technical Excellence looks like beyond the technique.

Details matter. Standards matter. The way people enter our community matters.

And we’re just getting started.

We literally just flew home from Las Vegas.

Another incredible week for NEO.
Another World Champion added to our history. 🥇🌎

And less than 24 hours later?

Back at the academy. Working.

Because while everyone sees the medals, the tournaments and the moments we celebrate, this is the other side of building NEO.

Over the last year, NEO has put the money, resources and manpower behind transforming this facility.

We funded the Unit 3 renovation.

Then we funded the renovation of the larger facility.

We purchased the new mats.

We built the NEO reception area.

We revamped and equipped the fitness area.

And this Labour Day, while most people were enjoying the long weekend, our people were back at it again.

This time: stadium seating.

One of our own, Norm Greedy brought his professional skills to the project. Two NEO families stayed at the academy for approximately six hours, with their kids alongside us, helping tear down, clean, move, organize and rebuild.

That’s the part people don’t always see.

NEO’s people did the work.
NEO’s people gave their time.
NEO funded it.

And we’re proud to say that plainly.

Because although NEO continues to drive these improvements, we’re creating a better facility for both communities that train within these walls.

That’s leadership to us. BUILDING IT.

Not talking about what you’re going to build or how long it took to do it.

And we’re STILL not finished.

This week kicks off another major phase for the academy. 🥊🥋

Our 5:45 PM BJJ classes are now combined, so make sure you check the updated schedule. Our new striking programming launches this week, too.

And throughout September, NEO members are invited to try the striking classes FREE. Train. Experiment. See what you enjoy. If you decide you want striking incorporated into your regular membership afterward, we’ll help you choose the right upgrade.

We came home from Vegas with another World Champion. Then came home and picked up the tools.

Championships aren’t the only thing we’re building around here.

COMMUNITY TRAVELS. 🤝

Most of our crew has officially arrived in Las Vegas for IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Con and World Masters — and before the competition begins, there’s always something to learn.

Yesterday started with time alongside the Gym Management & Membership Software team for their Customer Advisory Board — sharing ideas, learning what’s ahead, and continuing to look for ways we can improve the experience for our students and families back home.

Then we finished the night the way we usually do when we travel:

Huge thank you to Professor Dax and the entire crew at Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu Las Vegas for opening their doors to us. Great training, great energy, and an incredibly welcoming room.

One of our favourite parts about travelling for jiu-jitsu has always been this.

Different academies.
Different affiliations.
Different countries.

Same mats.

Same love for the sport.

Same opportunity to learn from each other.

Thank you for making our crew feel at home.

This week, the NEO System returns to the stand-up game with foot sweeps and combinations.

This quick drill focuses on an important piece of the finish: controlling the foot while maintaining your own balance and positioning before completing the sweep.

Simple movement. Important detail.
