Chantal telling it straight.
You just need to show up as yourself and model all the critical parenting traits that are lacking in their other parent.
Does this mean you have to perfect? Absolutely not. But when you do make mistakes, as we all do, just ensure that you acknowledge your mistake, genuinely apologize for it, and then try your best to change your behaviour so as to not continue to repeat the same mistakes over and over.
Your children just need you to show up.
To be consistent.
To be predictable.
To be respectful.
To be unconditionally loving.
To listen.
To hear them.
To see them.
To value them for just being them.
To be honest.
To be open.
To be patient.
And when you mess up, to watch you truly make amends and repair whatever damage was done.
And to do this, you need to first ensure that your cup is filled. Because you simply cannot pour from an empty cup.
So, by helping yourself, you’ll end up being better able to meet your children exactly where they need to be met.
