Been a while since the last update, but the race on July 27th was a good one for the 99 car. We had decent speed in practice, and started the heat race P1. I got a good initial jump, but slipped out of 3rd gear and dropped to the back, finishing 7th. For the feature, I lined up P1. For the initial start and first few restarts, I was able to hang onto the lead. On the first long green flag run, I lost quite a few spots but settled in P7 for a while. On the lap 12 restart, I missed a shift again, dropping me to 11th. I was able to make my way back up to 8th, where I finished. After an up and down day, I felt like an 8th place finish was actually fairly representative of our speed. My best finish of the year, can’t be unhappy with that.

For the annual Gunslinger 75 on August 11th, I was absent to attend a wedding (Congrats Jack and Jada and thank you for letting me be a part of your big day). Lyndon Pugh filled in for me in his first ever time behind the wheel. Lyndon did a great job in the 99 car, and kept improving as the day went on. He was able to bring the car home for a 13th place finish.

The 99 team made the trip to Petty International Raceway on July 7th to compete in the Mini Stock division. Being the only domestic car on the property, we were up against it from the get go. But thanks to Randy Storey Racing helping me set up the car and providing valuable advice on how to drive the track, which has a totally different feel than the familiar Speedway 660, we ran a smart race. It’s hard to stay out of the way of the Hondas, but I felt like I did a good job giving everyone respect and space while being lapped by the leaders. Unfortunately, near the end of the race, while being lapped, another car made significant contact with the right side of my car (see pictures). I kept going and was able to cross the line in 9th place.

Happy with the day overall, and I can’t thank Randy Storey, Nina, Ron, Raelene, Mom, Dad, Rachel, and all of the fans enough for supporting our race and division. Thank you to Rye Grizzly Chapman Grizzly Photography 1 who made the trip to Petty to take some awesome pictures.

Apologies for the late post. The 99 team had quite an eventful weekend on June 29th/30th at Speedway 660.

I started 1st in my heat race, and was able to pull away from the field and lead some laps. On lap 5, I made a mistake and got too greedy while coming out of turn 4, and dipped a tire in the dirt, spinning myself out and causing a caution. When we got going again, my skid plate was hanging and dragging, causing me to get black flagged. I was very upset with myself when I got out of the car, but I tried my best to stay positive and get ready for the feature. After our heats, the rain came, moving our feature race to the next day.

I started 1st in the feature race, didn’t get the best start, and dropped to 2nd after the first lap. Coming into turn 1 on lap 2, I thought I had enough room to come down, but there was a car on my inside, and when I came down to grab the low lane, I spun myself out off of his front bumper, relegating me to the back of the pack. Shoutout to all of the other drivers for avoiding me as I was stopped sideways in turn 2. After the restart, I was able to make some headway and move forward. About 15 laps in, the car started to handle terribly, and on lap 22, I had a right rear tire go down in the middle of turns 3 and 4. I pulled off into the pits during the caution where Ryan and Chris sprung into action and quickly got a new tire fitted, allowing me to rejoin without losing a lap. Huge thank you to these guys as I was able to bring the car home in 10th, on the lead lap, for my best finish of the year so far. I felt like the car had a lot more in it, and if I’m able to clean up a few mistakes moving forward, I can begin to compete for top 10’s and maybe even more in the coming races.

Another eventful day at Speedway 660 this past weekend. To celebrate Kid’s Day, our division competed in two 40- lap feature races. I had a blast signing cards, shirts, and flags for the kids before the race. After pulling the car back into the pits and setting it up for the heat race, the car would not fire up due to electrical problems. My crew quickly fixed the issue but unfortunately we had to miss the heat race, and start at the back of the first feature race.

In the first feature, I started 16th, and was able to move my way up inside the top 10. During an early restart, I made a mistake and missed a shift, losing several spots, but I was able to make passes to get most of the positions back. Around lap 15, the handling of the car started to go away, and on lap 21 I realized why as I blew a right front tire in turn 3. I was able to slowly make my way back to the pits, and my crew sprung into action quickly putting a new tire on. By the time I got back on the track, I had lost several laps, so I pulled into line and followed the car in front of me to the finish. The car felt the best it had all day after coming back out, so I felt confident for the second feature.

In the second feature, I started 14th, and passed a few cars in the first few laps. I found myself riding around in 12th unable to get past the car in front of me, but felt we were keeping good pace to compete for a top 10 or even more later in the race. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be as on lap 18 my right rear wheel bearing exploded coming out of turn 2 and ended my day. Really frustrating way to end a day that I felt could have gone a lot better. But at the end of the day, these things happen and I’ll be ready to do battle again this Saturday, the 29th.

I owe a massive thank you to Randy and Richard Storey for all of their help through the week preparing my car for the races, and for staying by my side all day. They are the reason I am able to do this, and their efforts do not go unnoticed. Special shout-out to Richard for taking the time on Sunday morning to come back to the track and replace my wheel bearing. Thank you to my loyal crew for all of their work throughout the day in the heat: Lyndon, Igal, Chris, and Alex. I wanted to also give a special shout-out to my teammate Randy Storey Racing who had some issues with his car, but hopped into the 44 car for the second feature and drove the wheels off it, to a 3rd place finish. His ability to hop in to a car that he has never driven before and drive it onto the podium says all you need to know about him as a driver, but he is an even better friend and teammate, who will find himself on the podium many more times this year.

The second race of the 2024 season is behind us, and all I can say is wow, what a crazy day.

The car was very solid in practice, and as I continue to get more comfortable behind the wheel, my lap times continue to improve. I started the heat race in 10th, and was able to advance to 8th, and felt like I was closing in on the cars in front of me towards the end. I started the feature race 19th, on the last row of the grid. From the drop of the green flag, the car felt really strong. I was able to make some passes and was slowly making my way forward. After narrowly avoiding a few big crashes, I found myself in 7th. Unfortunately, this was short lived, as I was hit from behind and spun, causing a caution, sending me to the back. I was able to get a few positions back and recover to 12th, where I finished. After a wild day with lots of cars leaving with significant damage, I was happy to bring the car home in one piece.

I cannot thank Randy and Richard Storey enough for all of their help getting my car ready for this race weekend. All of the hours you’ve both put in to my car, helping me get to the track, giving me feedback and advice, it’s all appreciated so much. Thank you to Lyndon, Chris, and Alex for all of their help in the pits, you guys are such an important part of this team. There was also a rather large army of 99 t-shirts in the stands this weekend, which is always so nice to see. After lots of hard work over the last few weeks, the 99 car was ready to tackle the season opener yesterday at Speedway 660. The car had some good speed in practice, and after making a few adjustments to the car and my driving style I felt really confident going into the heat race. I was able to make a few passes in the heat race, and felt good heading into the feature race.

When I was in the lineup for the feature race, the car began to overheat. The temp came back down to a place where I felt comfortable starting the race, but after a few laps the car was running way too hot to continue, so I pulled off and parked it. I got out of the car and watched my teammate Randy Storey Racing finish the feature in 2nd place. Randy drove a really smart race and had good speed all day, and I couldn’t be happier to see him start the season off with a well deserved trophy.

A huge thank you to Lyndon Pugh, Randy Storey, and Richard Storey for all of their hard work. You guys are the reason I’m able to do this, and have all given up so much of your time to help me prepare this car for the season. On September 30th, 2023, I made the trip to Petty International Raceway to compete in my first race in my newly acquired race car. Randy Storey was by my side, as always, helping me get used to my new car and a brand new race track for me. At the end of the 30-lap feature, I was able to cross the line with a 9th place finish. After the bad luck and mistakes the previous weekend at Speedway 660, it felt really good to be able to get a solid finish.

Randy and I returned to Petty International Raceway the following week to compete in the Mike Stevens Memorial Weekend. For this weekend, in memory of Mike, our division was allotted 2 separate 44 lap feature races. In the first feature, the car felt really strong and I was able to place 11th in a stacked field of 22 cars. Most importantly for me, I was the highest finisher among the “domestic” cars, which was my main goal for the day, as the Honda Civics that rule the Mini Stock division at Petty are much faster than the cars we race at Speedway 660. Needless to say, I went into the second 44 lap feature with loads of confidence. Probably too much in hindsight.

In the second feature race, I didn’t make it past the first corner on the first lap. Due to some confusion with the lineup, I started in last place. Going into the first corner, there was a big pileup with multiple cars spinning in front of me. Because I was feeling a little too confident, I drove hard into the first corner, and in an attempt to avoid other cars, I made hard contact with the outside wall. This contact ended my weekend. I was really disappointed because I felt like I had a really good chance at another solid finish.

With lots of hard work from the Storey’s, who I truly can’t thank enough, my car was ready to make the trip to Speedway Miramichi on October 22nd. Due to poor weather, not many cars showed up for this race. In a heat race of 5 cars, I was able to finish in 3rd place. Excited for the feature race, I hopped in the car and attempted to fire it up to drive over and line up. Long story short, the motor had reached the end of its lifetime. Dejected, I got out and watched the feature from the sidelines. And for a second race weekend in a row, my car had to be loaded onto the trailer with the winch.

Lots of highs and lows over these three race weekends. Regardless of the results, the experience I gained was incredibly valuable. I am so very thankful to Randy and Richard Storey for all of their support, as well as Alex, Lyndon, Chris, my mom and dad, Bret, Ryan, Logan, Devin, and everyone else who has made this dream a reality for me. I am thrilled to be only a few weeks away from the start of the upcoming season. With tons of hard work over these next few weeks, I will be ready to go out and give it my all on May 18th, and I truly cannot wait.

Despite my lifelong interest in racing, my involvement in the Sharpshooter division at Speedway 660 did not occur until the 2023 season. I took Randy Storey up on his offer to join his pit crew. I initially had no plans to race myself, but found myself enjoying being at the track more and more each time I went. In early July, I sent a text to Randy on the Monday after a race weekend and told him that I really wanted to race. Randy responded almost immediately, offering me a guest appearance driving one of his cars. I thought it was a really kind thing to offer, but truthfully never imagined it would actually happen. Clearly I didn’t know Randy as well as I thought I did.

On September 21st, 2023, I got behind the wheel of a Sharpshooter car for the first time. Randy, Richard, and Alex spent the evening with me at the track, setting up the car and helping me get faster as I ran my first ever laps. After about 2 hours of practice, I was able to drastically improve my lap times and go in to my first ever race weekend with some confidence. On September 23rd, I made my first race start. In a day plagued with issues, mostly of my own doing, I was unable to put a clean run together. However, the car came home in one piece and I gained some valuable experience behind the wheel. I was able to put together some decent lap times in the middle of the race, but my inexperience ultimately showed and I got out of the car disappointed with how the day went.

Having acquired the racing bug, I knew that it was only a matter of time before I made some irresponsible financial decisions. So, within a week of my first race, I purchased my first race car. The season at Speedway 660 had just wrapped up, but with major help from the Storey’s, I began planning a few races at other tracks around New Brunswick in my new car.

I will make a few more posts in the coming weeks recapping how these races went, and some of the work that is being done in the offseason to prepare for the 2024 season. The season is approaching rapidly, with the first race scheduled for May 18th. Thank you to everyone for the support so far!

I am beyond excited to compete in the first race of the season at Speedway 660 in less than a month, with the first race scheduled for May 18th. In anticipation of the season, I have decided to share a little more about how I got into racing, and preview the upcoming season. I wanted to start by sharing how racing has played an important role in my life leading up to this point.

Some of my earliest memories of racing were watching Formula 1 and NASCAR races at home with my dad. I remember getting up early Sunday mornings, eating boiled eggs and toast, and watching Formula 1 races on tv. My dad was (and is) a Michael Schumacher fan. So naturally, I began cheering for Fernando Alonso, Michael’s biggest rival at the time. I was also a big Tony Stewart fan around the same time.

My dad took notice of my interest in racing and began taking me to Scotia Speedworld, and eventually Riverside International Speedway to watch Pro Stock races. Some of the memories that stick out for me at these races are eating turkey and cheese sandwiches in the wooden grandstands, while watching some incredible racing unfold on track. To this day, we still enjoy going to races together and attempting to pick the winner before the green flag drops. Dad seems to have quite a knack for this, if only there was live sports betting for Pro Stock races.

I never imagined I would get the chance to be a part of the show at a racetrack in my lifetime, I just simply enjoyed being a fan. I am still and will always be a fan of all forms of racing, but I certainly have a unique appreciation and affection for asphalt short track racing. I look forward to continuing to share my love for racing with all of you through this page.
