Water Babies Canada

Water Babies Canada We teach water confidence and safety skills to babies and toddlers, but we're about so much more than just that! www.waterbabies.ca That makes us very proud.

We teach swimming and safety skills to babies and toddlers, but we're about so much more than just that. Our classes are great for helping to enhance the bonding process, having fun, making new friends... and the utter thrill of seeing your little one gliding underwater towards you. Over the years we know our lessons were directly responsible for saving the lives of more than a dozen little ones w

ho otherwise might have tragically drowned. We also have a world class underwater photography program (check out www.waterbabies.ca/photography). We captured over 100,000 underwater images in the past year, making us the world's largest producer of underwater pictures!

Think you missed your chance to join? 🌈🐠

Unlike many programs, Water Babies registrations are open all year round! There are no set registration periods or seasonal sign-ups. As long as there’s availability for your little one’s age group, you can start your swimming journey whenever you’re ready 👏🏻

How is that possible? 👀

Our teachers are trained to meet every child where they are. Every lesson can be adapted with progressions and regressions, ensuring each swimmer receives the right level of support whether they’re taking their very first splash or progressing through the program.

We usually accept bookings up to 6 weeks before your preferred start date (this may vary by franchise) 💦

Make swimming lessons part of your family’s September routine ✨

Happy International Friendship Day 🫂🧡

Swimming is fun, but it’s even better with friends by your side! 👏🏻

Today is the perfect opportunity to remind everyone that friendship and safety go hand in hand.

It's what we call the buddy system.

It simply means never swimming alone, always having someone with you in and around water to help keep everyone safe. It’s about looking out for one another and being there if someone needs help 👀

This is important for little ones who always need close supervision, but also for older children and adults, especially when swimming in unfamiliar or natural bodies of water.

So, stay safe, stick together, and always swim with a buddy 💦

❌ Myth: My child is wearing floaties, they’re safe
✅ Reality: Floaties do not prevent drowning

Floaties, inflatable rings, water wings, and pool noodles are flotation aids, not lifesaving devices. Only a properly fitted, approved lifejacket is designed to help keep someone safe in an emergency.

Floatation aids should never be relied on to keep a child safe and may even create additional risks. They can slip off, deflate, or flip, trapping a child underwater. They can also create a false sense of security, which may lead to reduced supervision or delayed response in an emergency.

Even if flotation aids are used, the same safety rules must always apply: constant, distraction-free supervision, full attention, and always staying within arm’s reach.

World Drowning Prevention Day 🧡🛟

Today we recognize the work of teachers and teams not only across Water Babies Canada, but across organizations around the world. Those who are in the water every day with little swimmers and their families, building confidence, and teaching essential safety skills 💦

It’s a reminder that this work matters – in every pool, in every lesson, in every country. It’s part of something much bigger ✨

Bright colours are easier to see in water than darker ones

It’s a simple detail that can help with visibility in and around water 🧡

❌ Myth: Children will shout for help when in danger.
✅ Reality: Drowning is silent.

There are no big splashes, shouting or cries for help like you see in movies.

It can happen quietly, quickly, and without warning.

A child in distress may not be able to call out or wave for help, especially younger children. Instead, they may struggle silently beneath or at the surface of the water, making it difficult to recognize what is happening.

This is why actively watching, staying focused, and being ready to respond immediately is so important.

Because water safety is about what you see, not what you hear 💙

❌ Myth: There are lots of adults around the pool, so the children are being supervised.
✅ Reality: Nobody is actually supervising - because everyone is making the same assumption.

At social events or when surrounded by large groups near water, it’s common to think that with many adults present, children are being supervised. But when everyone assumes someone else has responsibility, that’s when accidents can occur.

That’s why assigning a designated “Water Watcher” is so important.

This person is responsible for actively supervising the children in and around water, with full attention and no distractions. After 15-20 minutes, this role should be rotated to another adult.

Because in water, shared responsibility can quickly become no responsibility at all 🧡
