🏒 The stride formation produces the most goals every year 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 = 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿, 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 = 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱.
Proper body alignment and chain reaction, while having your head up, adds 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆, 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲!

🏒 Learning to properly “rim” or manipulate the puck on your blade can improve puck control, create better shooting positions, and help players get their shot off more effectively.

Every player learns differently, and understanding how to adapt your coaching approach can help each player reach their potential.

One of the qualities that makes a great youth/minor hockey coach is understanding that every player is different. Every player brings different strengths, abilities, personalities, experiences, and potential to your team. This doesn’t just apply to their ability to play...

🏒 HOCKEY TIP: Make Your Shot Count!
If the puck hits the goalie and goes in… it counts! 🎯

That’s why players need to learn more than just speed and deception. Proper body control, release mechanics, and shot power can make all the difference when attacking the net.

Teach players to create a quick, deceptive release — but don’t forget the power behind it.

Because if the puck is going to hit the goalie… we want it to go THROUGH the goalie! 💥 🥅

The Power Hand (bottom hand) creates a strong pushing motion. When that push is directed downward, it helps load and bend the stick, creating energy through the shaft.

As you release the puck, the Power Arm should fully lock at the elbow, while the stride-leg knee locks simultaneously. This coordinated movement helps transfer energy efficiently into the shot.

Don’t forget the wrists! Activate your wrist snap just as the puck leaves the blade. A strong, quick wrist snap helps create tighter puck spin - and tighter spin can produce a more stable, consistent flight path.

Power. Timing. Wrist activation. Better release.

Determination can elevate confidence!
The puck won’t always be perfectly positioned on your blade before you shoot. Great shooters understand when to adjust, adapt and release rather than waiting for the perfect setup.
Sometimes, the best play is to get the puck to the net quickly, with speed and force. A fast release can create rebounds, second-chance opportunities and unexpected scoring chances.
Don’t always wait for perfect - recognize the opportunity and get the puck to the net!
