Elliotte Friedman is putting a lot of emphasis on one thing with Cutter Gauthier’s next contract:

The number is going to be BIG.

“I had heard some rumors of some progress, but it’s gonna be a big number… a really, really big number.”

After his breakout season, Gauthier has established himself as one of the key pieces of Anaheim’s young core alongside Leo Carlsson, Beckett Sennecke and Lukas Dostal.

Now the question is how high the Ducks are willing to go on a long-term deal.

Sources say Friedman is simply vacationing overseas and that most of the terms on a new deal with Rogers have already been agreed to.

Sigel also pushed back hard on the Amazon speculation, saying the idea that Prime made a huge offer was “complete fiction.”

There may have been discussions, but according to his sources, Amazon was never preparing to blow up its payroll just to land one insider.

So after days of speculation that Friedman was headed for a massive move to Prime…The most likely outcome may be that he stays right where he is. Quite the plot twist.

The Matthew Mayich situation could now affect Arizona State’s entire hockey season.

College Hockey News’ Adam Wodon said he believes it’s at least possible ASU doesn’t play this season at all, although he stressed that nobody inside the program is talking and that he’s piecing things together himself.

That would be a massive consequence for the program.

Mayich remains hospitalized after collapsing during the Aug. 20 workout, police are investigating what happened, and the family’s attorneys have continued raising serious allegations about the workout and the response afterward.

Nothing has been decided yet.

But the fact that an entire NCAA hockey season is even being discussed as potentially at risk shows how serious this situation has become.

REPORT | Arizona State hockey players are afraid to tell investigators what really happened during the workout that left Matthew Mayich hospitalized.

According to Mayich family attorney Rob Carey, some players are scared to speak openly because they fear losing playing time, scholarships, or damaging the program.

Carey’s concern is simple: if teammates witnessed what happened before, during, or after Mayich collapsed, investigators need them to feel safe enough to talk honestly.

That matters even more now that police are examining the circumstances surrounding the Aug. 20 workout.

These are allegations from the family’s attorney, and no retaliation has been proven.

But if players are genuinely afraid to speak, that becomes a serious issue on its own.

Matthew Schaefer turns 19 today, and his story already goes far beyond hockey. 💜

Around the time he was becoming the No. 1 pick in the NHL Draft, Schaefer missed his high school graduation while his life was changing completely.

But the hardest part of his journey came much earlier.

Schaefer lost his mother, Jennifer, to breast cancer, an experience that could have broken anyone, especially at his age.

Instead, he’s continued finding ways to honor her by connecting with others dealing with grief and using his own experience to help people through theirs.

That’s what makes this photo hit differently.

He may be one of the brightest young stars in hockey, but the maturity and compassion he’s shown away from the rink might be even more impressive.

Only 19 today. Already making an impact far bigger than hockey.

A new allegation is putting even more scrutiny on the workout that left Matthew Mayich hospitalized.

According to the attorney representing Mayich’s family, players were not allowed to get water unless they completed certain workout stations within the required time.

That matters because the Aug. 20 session was being held outdoors in Arizona heat, and Mayich had only recently arrived in the state.

A heat-illness expert who reviewed the situation described the combination of intense exercise, heat, possible dehydration and limited acclimatization as a dangerous mix.

There’s another detail that stands out: ASU’s own heat-safety guidance says water should be available during practices.

The hockey community is making sure Jessi Pierce’s name is never forgotten.

The longtime NHL.com writer died tragically in a house fire earlier this year at just 37, along with her three children and family dog.

Now, Minnesota hockey is creating the Jessi Pierce Community Cup in her honor.

Eight teams will take part in the December tournament, with proceeds going toward a scholarship program created to continue the work and impact Jessi had on hockey in Minnesota.

She spent a decade covering the Wild and helping tell other people’s hockey stories.

Now the hockey community is making sure hers keeps being told.

The hockey community is mourning the loss of 19-year-old Noah Ellington. 💔

The young defenseman, who played junior hockey with the Florida Eels after coming through the Riverview Ice Sharks, has passed away following a reported car accident.

Noah played 42 games for the Eels last season, but the part of his story that stands out goes beyond hockey. He also volunteered with recreational and Learn to Play programs, helping younger kids find their own love for the game.

Only 19 years old. Still chasing his own hockey dream, while already giving back to the next generation.

Thinking of Noah’s family, teammates, coaches and everyone who knew him.

A disturbing new allegation has emerged in the Matthew Mayich case. 💔

According to an attorney representing Mayich’s family, the 21-year-old hockey player was not immediately taken to a cooling station or placed in an ice bath after collapsing during the Aug. 20 workout at Arizona State.

Instead, the attorney alleges Mayich “was left on the ground for several minutes” before emergency cooling measures were taken.

That detail could become important as authorities examine exactly what happened before and after Mayich collapsed.

These remain allegations from the family’s legal team, and the investigation has not yet established responsibility.

But if confirmed, the timeline of those first few minutes after Mayich went down could become one of the most important questions in this entire case.

Elliotte Friedman has gone six days without posting, and the timing is getting harder to ignore. 👀

His Sportsnet contract has expired, he’s now officially a free agent, and multiple reports have linked him to Amazon Prime as the company builds out its new national Wednesday night NHL package in Canada.

Amazon has already secured the rights to national Wednesday night games in both English and French, starting this season, and adding Friedman would instantly give that broadcast one of the biggest hockey insiders in the country.

Nothing has been announced yet, and Friedman could still return to Sportsnet. But with his deal expired, Amazon circling, and Friedman suddenly going quiet online…

you can understand why people think something big may be happening behind the scenes. 👀

Six days of silence. New TV rights. No Sportsnet deal. The smoke is definitely getting thicker.
