I know this is long but I speak from the heart! ❤️
I filmed this a couple of days ago but I thought it would be relevant for Mother’s Day. 🥰
We as women carry an invisible load: the load of our kids, spouse, work, obligations and so much more. And we often get the ‘leftovers’, leaving our self-care to sporadic moments.
Many of us can’t even relax when we DO have time, because there’s so much to do. I know, because I was in this vicious cycle for years.
Then you add in social media, texts, emails and the ‘ability’ to be constantly available 24-7, you have to wonder what that does to our nervous system.
It leaves us in a constant state of fight or flight, ramped up and never able to be fully present or relax. For many, it shows up as anxiety: constant worry that we can’t settle.
Some of the things I’ve done for myself over the last few months, even year include:
1. Being VERY clear with my boundaries. I fiercely protect my time, energy and boundaries. As a people-pleaser it’s hard, but I have realized that saying NO creates PEACE.
2. I have reduced my availability. I took off email off my phone, set ‘do not disturb’ hours and have limited how people can reach me.
3. I downloaded ‘Screen Zen’, a free app where I have greatly reduced my social media access. It works! I gave myself 6-5 minute blocks a day each for Facebook and Instagram. I’m 38 days in and now I don’t even use my daily limit. I no longer scroll without intention. I fill my time with purpose which has increased how present I am. My mood is better, my anxiety is less and I’m just happier.
4. Listen to your body. If you are anxious, exhausted or not yourself, give yourself permission to REST. Honestly. You are not meant to be a machine. You need rest to function at your best, so you CAN be the kick-ass woman that you are! ❤️
I would love to hear how you feel, and if any of this resonates with you? Are you struggling? Also, what you’ve done to be more present?
Wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day.
Christine ❤️
