🟡🔵 MIDWEEK RESULTS 🟡🔵

Premier League
Onchan 0 - St John’s 2 (HT 0-1)
⚽️ Dean Leece
⚽️ Adam Somerville

Combination One
St John’s 1 - Onchan 2 (HT 1-0)
⚽️ Ciaran Leece

For the First Team, an interesting pitch (see Vannin Photos for details) made for a first half low on chances for both teams, with Onchan the better side for the first 30 minutes. St John’s grew into the half, and in the final minute a well-taken Harvey Cleator corner received some head tennis in the box before Dean Leece headed it home. Second half, St John’s started brightly, and on the 50th minute Harvey Cleator took a free-kick from the left which Adam Somerville glanced home.

A strongly contested game, which saw three penalties saved in a 15-minute spell in the second half, ended 2-0 to the Johners.

Ciaran Leece’s goal-scoring start to the season continued when he netted the opener for the Combi. A strong defensive performance then followed, with the lads digging in, but Onchan came out 2-1 winners, with Onchan’s winner coming in the final minutes of the game.

With no game for either team this Saturday, our next fixture will be against Braddan on the 12th September.

🟡🔵 OPENING WEEKEND WINS 🟡🔵

Premier League
St John’s 2 - Laxey 1 (HT 0-0)
⚽️ Bradley Calvert
⚽️ Dean Leece

Combination One
Laxey 3 - St John’s 4 (HT 2-3)
⚽️ Brandon Forrester-McElevey
⚽️⚽️ John Hagedorn
⚽️ Ciaran Leece

Both teams started their respective campaigns with hard-fought encounters against strong Laxey teams.

First Team took the lead in the second half, with a well-taken corner from Pedro Cardoso converted by an excellent header from Bradley Calvert. Shortly after, Laxey capitalised on a defensive error to make it 1-1. Late in the game, Liam Sayle broke down the left-hand side, squaring the ball to Dean Leece, who put it home for the winner. A well-fought game by both teams, which started with a minute’s silence in remembrance of John Paul ‘Jossa’ Jones, a stalwart of the club who sadly passed away in August.

For the Combi team, a well-contested game saw newly appointed player-manager John Hagedorn score a brace to edge the game.

This week sees the First Team in action away at Onchan on Tuesday, with the Combi team hosting Onchan at Mullen-e-Cloie on Wednesday.
