Tuesday Night Men’s League – Week 1 Recap
at Smiths Falls Golf and Country Club
Well gentlemen, the impossible has happened… we made it through opening night and nobody needed a snow shovel, ice scraper, or emergency hot chocolate at the turn. Spring golf in Canada truly is magical.
For the new guys trying to figure out our scoring system, don’t worry — half the league still pretends they understand it too.
Here’s the simplified explanation:
Every week, 3 handicap holes are selected on each side. Your score compared to par on those holes gets multiplied by 3 and then either added or subtracted from your total. In other words, a triple bogey on the wrong hole can turn a decent round into a police investigation.
Example:
If you’re +2 on the selected holes, that becomes +6 and gets subtracted from your total.
If you’re -2 on those holes, congratulations — you just found the cheat code and get 6 strokes added to your score.
This week’s hidden landmines were:
Front 9: 2, 4, 7
Back 9: 11, 13, 16
Some guys found them strategically. Others drove directly into them at full speed.
Highlights from Night #1:
* Team “Balls Deep” cleaned out all the skins. Rumour has it they’re now accepting sponsorship offers and appearance fees.
* Mike McKenney and Adian Cyr took home Closest to the Pin honours, proving that at least two golfers in the league can hit the correct continent off the tee.
* After all the mathematical wizardry and handicap hole chaos was sorted out, the mighty “Curb Appeal Ducks” waddled their way into first place overall and officially sit atop the standings after Week 1.
A dangerous place to be this early in the season, as history shows the league leaders in May are usually just one bad night away from threatening to sell their clubs by June.
This week’s sponsor is the Roadrunners, and the format will be a 2-Man Scramble from the white tees.
Which means:
* One guy will hit a great shot.
* The other guy will say “we’ll use mine” after topping it 14 feet.
* And somebody will absolutely miss a 2-footer while insisting they “never miss those.”
See everyone Tuesday. Try not to peak too early this season.
