In between it all I finally got to watch Heated Rivalry, and I'm no art critic, but a lot of people have been wondering my opinion. I think it's perfectly fine for what it is, a romantic serial of forbidden love. The explicit scenes do nothing for me, but I'm glad the boys have something mainstream to enjoy... and straight women too I gather, who seem to watch this like straight men might enjoy Le***an erotica. How do we feel about this?
Is it realistic? Not exactly... Have there been closeted gay men in the NHL? Most definitely. Have there been three elite MVP level players, the equivalent of Crosby, Ovechkin and, I dunno, Joe Thornton, who were gay all at once, with the first two secretly hooking up? Probably not. This actually is closer to women's hockey, minus the secrecy part, at least nowadays. The whole premise of the show could be described as, "What if men's hockey was as gay as women's" Lol
One thing that is spot on though; when Eastern European players suddenly come into big North American money, and then friends, family, and hangers on back home come looking for a piece. That happens A LOT.
