I feel like such a fool. After the extraordinary weekend of great speeches and workshops all about bringing willing heads together on subjects as critical to the community health of Powell River as any that one might think of, I had this wonderful experience.

Driving to a friend's, south, I left along Marine and was headed for Westview when I noticed some folk down, over the hill on the Bocce Nation course location. I decided to pull over and check them out.

Sneaking down, I took this pic of the gathering of about eight 'twenty something?s apparently, playing bocce!

I didn't speak to them, snuck back up to 'Driftwood 2' and began heading south, into Westview.

But I began to weep and cry by myself as I drove south to Myrtle. I was crying from the happy knowledge of success for my little baby - Bocce Nation.

Here there were, on a Friday night, in the sunny weather, 8 young folk I did not know and had never played bocce with, that's fer sure, experiencing what I knew to be, a wonderful social activity. EXACTLY what I envisioned last summer when I first mowed the slope on the old Townsite Golf course property, near the old burnt down Clubhouse.

The irony of having just spent the weekend at the fabulously successful, Tapping the Groundswell meet-up did not escape me :)

March 22nd, 2016....Bocce Nation is officially open for business....come play one and all anytime....bring your friends, your aunts, your cousins, your second favourite employees or just a couple strangers !!

About halfway between the Patricia Theatre and Brooks School in Townsite, on the coastal Highway 101 (Marine Drive). Just pull over where you see the 'Bocce Nation' log where the old driveway goes down to where the old Townsite Golf Course Clubhouse used to be :) .....stroll on down, bless the Tla'Amin earth beneath your feet .....and bocce on !

Bocce Nation is sad to report a couple THEFTS recently.

A 6' wooden easel was stolen from beside the highway at thr entrance to the Bocce Nation course at the old Townsite Golf Course Clubhouse location this morning or last night - March 21st, 2016. It was to be the announcement sign for Bocce Nation's events.

If whoever helped themselves could return the easel, no questions asked, that would be best and, if you cannot return it and must keep it, kindly enjoy it and think about providing some reparations to the community gift that is Bocce Nation.

The same goes for the person(s) responsible for stealing a blue pry bar, a narrow spade shovel and a nine foot, blond log that was also laying along the pull-out on the highway waiting to be installed on the course.

Please be aware of these items as they'll inevitably show up at somebody's place and ought to be returned asap just because stealing from a community effort is really just stealing fro yourself and it's pretty low.....and sad. Anyway here's couple pics of Bocce Nation comin up :)

***UPDATE - JAN 30***** - Bocce Nation will now not happen at Towncentre Mall's vacant field as had been the concept and announcement made earlier today! I have failed to properly secure said location and I apologize to all who had been advised of said occurrence.

I wholly regret my error and it was entirely my mistake. Bocce Nation WILL endeavor to secure a more appropriate location and such advisement will be forthcoming in due course. Thanks for all for supporting the nascent Bocce Nation incubations :)

Bocce Nation has been selected as the new name for what initially was called the First Nation of Bocce. Although not intended as any kind of slight to any First Nation organization of person, evidence surfaced where an individual from a BC First Nation felt the name demonstrated a certain lack of respect for First Nations in general. Consequently, the change was made today so as to un-offend all.

Long Live Bocce Nation here in Townsite, Powell River, BC.
