One statistic from this game really caught my attention: Vinícius Jr. made 9 ball recoveries against Inter Milan, the most by a Real Madrid striker in the Champions League since Gonzalo Higuaín’s 12 back in 2008. 😳🔥

That tells you something about Vini’s commitment. Even when things weren't clicking offensively, he was working, tracking back and fighting to win the ball for his team. 👏🏽

BUT HERE’S THE THING 🤔

Those recoveries are great, and that kind of work is important especially in a difficult Champions League game like this. But Real Madrid also need Vinícius to turn that energy into goals, assists, chances and moments of creativity. Fede Valverde was named Man of the Match after scoring Real Madrid’s winning goal against Inter Milan, and honestly, he absolutely deserved his recognition. His goal was crucial, his work rate was immense, and he gave Madrid the moment they needed. 👏⚽

BUT… WATCHING THIS GAME, I CAN’T HELP BUT GIVE A HUGE SHOUT-OUT TO THIBAUT COURTOIS 🧤🚨

Valverde himself admitted it: “Courtois saved us.” And he wasn’t exaggerating. Inter created chance after chance, especially in the second half, while Real Madrid struggled to control the game. Madrid benefited from Inter’s mistakes for their goals, but when Inter found openings, Courtois was there again and again. Seven saves, including a massive late stop that helped protect the 2-1 lead. 😳🔥

So yes, congratulations to Valverde on the MVP. He earned it. But for me, Courtois was the difference between a Champions League victory and a very different night at the Bernabéu.

🏆✨ A BEAUTIFUL MOMENT FOR MBAPPÉ & ARDA GÜLER! 🤍

Before the Champions League clash with Inter Milan, Kylian Mbappé and Arda Güler were honoured for their outstanding performances in last season’s competition. Mbappé received the top-scorer award after his incredible 15-goal campaign, while Güler was recognised as the best young player. 👏🔥

But on the pitch, it was a different story. Real Madrid got the 2-1 victory, but honestly, this was far from a convincing performance. Both Madrid goals came from costly Inter mistakes rather than moments of pure creativity, and Inter had plenty of chances to hurt them. Madrid also struggled to control the game, with Courtois making crucial saves to protect the lead. 🧤

Still, three points are three points. ✅ Congratulations to Real Madrid on their first Champions League win of the season but there is clearly a lot to improve. The talent is there; now they need to turn it into better football. 🤍⚽
