We’re excited to welcome Shelly tomorrow for off-ice yoga training! 🌄🧘‍♀️

Shelly is a 200hr RYT, trained in traditional Baptiste yoga and a member of the Canadian Yoga Alliance. Tomorrow’s session will be a blend of yoga flow, yin-inspired movement, and intentional breath work — designed to support mobility, recovery, balance, and focus for our athletes both on and off the ice. ✨

And a fun fact… she’s also Lizzie’s mom 💙

We can’t wait to see all of our skaters in the morning! Happy May long 🙂

Figure skating moms show up in so many ways. ✨

As parents juggling busy schedules.
As grandparents cheering in cold arenas.
As coaches building skills and leadership.
As volunteers, board members, and community staff keeping programs running behind the scenes. ⛸️🤍

They tie skates, drive hours, calm nerves, celebrate milestones, organize events, support families, and help create the community that makes our rinks feel like home.

Figure skating is so much more than a sport — it’s a community built by people who care deeply and show up for one another every single day.

To those that shape ours - we celebrate you today!

Okotoks - we're proud to share we have a NEW CanSkate Coach In Training, in our community! 🤩

Our own, Marcella Maron, attended Skate Canada: Alberta-NWT/Nunavut 2-day, in-person training, following the completion of eLearning modules comprised of Coaching Foundations and CanSkate Foundations.

Next up, is actively applying her coaching knowledge and gaining experience through CanSkate programming, completing additional eLearning modules on multi-sport courses, and building her 'CanSkate Coach Certified Evaluation Portfolio' which includes:

- Mentorship interview with the Coach evaluator
- Coaching philosophy
- Coaching goals
- Skater development philosophy
- CanSkate minimum requirement and delivery standards w/ coordinator or board member
- Emergency Action Plan (EAP)
- Submission of one technical video lessons at the CanSkate level
- Session Components

Upon evaluation and approval by a Skate Canada representative - she will become a fully certified CanSkate Coach!

Milestones like this are a huge celebration for the skater, their parents and coaching team. Congratulations again Marcella!

What used to feel “elite” becomes normal.

Younger athletes start watching.
They start dreaming.
They start believing they belong in that space too.

And that’s the part people don’t always see—
the confidence built, the identity formed,
the quiet pride of doing something different right where you are.

Because this isn’t just about developing stronger skaters .
It’s about building something bigger…
right here at home 🏠
