😢 Sad day today….. a legend has passed away. ❤️
Who had the opportunity to meet this legend?
He was signing autographs at Thrifty Foods in the early 90’s around Victoria.

😀 Hope everyone is enjoying their summer. It’s been a hot one!!! ☀️

✳️ As I’m sure some of you know I started this page because I love local sports and fell into the art of doing graphic design all thanks to a page I also administer with many others, Freeze the Puck Hockey.

✌️ I like to think I’ve had a good run on this page for over a year now. Unfortunately, it doesn’t pay the bills. Unless someone wants to endorse me…. 🦗 🦗
The main reason that allowed me into this field was all because I was on stress leave from my work. It gave me the opportunity to pursue my hobbies and passion which is sports journalism and graphic design. I want to thank everyone for following along and I will keep this page open so I can comment and send the odd post here and there.

Thank you for listening. 🙏🏽

📣 Despite going down to 10 players after a second-half red card, Pacific FC picked up a third straight win on Wednesday night, coming back from a goal down to win 2-1 over Valour FC at Starlight Stadium.
✳️ With the win, Pacific move to the top of the CPL standings, jumping over the Winnipeggers.

📣 The Minnesota Wild have signed defenseman Joe Hicketts to a two-year, two-way deal.

✳️ Destined for the AHL, Hicketts has only appeared in a total of 22 NHL games, but he is a very solid depth option to have in the farm system and the two-year deal reflects that. Having the two-way option means that he will have different salaries depending on the league he is playing in — Hicketts will still require waivers once he’s sent down after training camp.

✳️ Last season for the Grand Rapids Griffins, the 5-foot-8, 25-year-old blueliner racked up 18 points in 32 games. Hicketts plays much larger than his actual size and is not afraid of being physical in his own end — he earned a professional contract for being a World Juniors standout for Team Canada in 2016. This is more than enough of a replacement for an Iowa team was losing some big names like Matt Bartkowski and (might) lose Calen Addison to the big club.

✳️ Similar to the other minor-league defensemen the Wild currently possess, Hicketts can certanily provide some bottom-pairing cover if the NHL roster is ever in a desperate pinch. Whether it’s Dakota Mermis or a less experienced player, there’s options there.
This is nothing more than some cover, but at least it’s an interesting player that is not afraid of really anything.

✳️ 🙏 Shout out to Freeze the Puck Hockey for the graphic logos!!! 👏

📣 The Victoria Royals are proud to announce Gannon Laroque was drafted in the fourth round, 103rd overall to the San Jose Sharks in the 2021 NHL Draft.

✳️ Last season, the 17-year-old became a top defenceman for the Royals, logging the most minutes played among all Royals players. Weighing in at 6’2” and 196 pounds, Gannon became the physical playmaker the team needed in the RE/MAX BC Division Hub Centre.

✳️ Gannon, who has been with the Royals for the last two seasons, received the Royals Top Defencemen Award for his outstanding play last season.

✳️ The Edmonton native spent two years in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL) before joining the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) in 2018. After leaving the CSSHL, he joined the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) in 2019 playing for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons before joining the Western Hockey League (WHL) Victoria Royals. Similarly, in 2020 Gannon spent time with the AJHL Spruce Grove Saints before joining the Royals.
