Shotgun week is over, and an eventful week it was. Opening morning we had a nice 8 point buck come out, shot was made, and by all accounts it looked like a good shot, we had a strong blood trail. But it wasn’t to be, we spent the entire day tracking it, we caught up to it twice and it took off without presenting another shot.
No one ever wants to lose a deer after injuring it, but unfortunately it happens, and it serves as a reminder to only shoot when you are confident in your shot.
The rest of the week we saw lots of deer but never had a shot at any of them, and it wouldn’t be till Thursday that we had the opportunity, taking a buck and a doe 5 minutes apart from each other.
The weekenders has a tradition of naming your kills, and so may I introduce “Willy” and “beans”.
The 2 guys who shot decided to switch it up Friday morning and go duck hunting, and they were on a roll, 4 woodies and limited out on geese.
All in all we all had a great week, had lots of fun and can’t wait until next year.
