Day 3 final recap and day 4 🇫🇷🏒💙
The hockey portion of this adventure has come to an end, and what an experience it was. This tournament brought together a lot of talented female hockey players, and this team represented itself well throughout the week.

Yesterday’s quarterfinal was a tough one, with the girls struggling to generate scoring chances while Eastern Prospects were able to capitalize.
Isabel’s goalie partner, Grace, faced 20 shots, many of them quality chances, and Eastern came away with a 6–0 win. Not the ending anyone hoped for, but the effort and resilience were there.

From home, hearing the coaches’ closing remarks really helped frame the week. They spoke about how proud they were of this group — how quickly the girls came together, learned new systems, supported one another through adversity, and grew both on and off the ice. Results aside, the focus was always on growth, teamwork, and defining success beyond the scoreboard. These girls were incredibly fortunate to be guided by coaches who care deeply about their players as people, not just athletes.

With hockey finished, today was all about enjoying what’s left of the trip. A Saturday market, a flume ride, a roller coaster, and a final meal of fondue made for a pretty great last day — and some photos we know we’ll be looking back on for a long time.

And a very special thank you to Nonn for taking on this adventure with Isabel. There was a lot of tough talk ahead of time about the “rules” that would be enforced while away… but so far we’ve heard nothing but “Nonn let me do this,” “Nonn bought me this,” and “Nonn is the best.” 😄 We’re beyond grateful she got to experience this trip with him by her side.

Proud of the journey, grateful for the memories, and thankful for everyone who helped make this experience possible. 🇫🇷🥐🏒

Day 3 Midday update 🇫🇷🏒

The girls took on Sweden Selects this morning, and it was a tough one. It took a while to get the wheels going, and the game was physical with the refs calling it pretty tight — the girls were sent to the box 8 times, spending a big chunk of the game shorthanded.
We had some trouble getting organized defensively and got caught a few times, giving Sweden lots of good scoring chances. Three goals got by Isabel in the first, and we headed into intermission tied 3–3.

Sweden pulled ahead in the second, scoring at the 8, 10, and 16‑minute marks to make it 6–3. The girls kept pushing and answered back with one more, finishing with a 6–4 loss.

With that result, the team drops to 6th place instead of holding 3rd with a win. That sets up a quarterfinal matchup against Eastern Prospects (3rd place) this afternoon at 1:30pm (our time).

New game, fresh start.

Let’s go! 💪🥅🔥

Day 2 recap:
The girls faced Finland Selects at 4:50am our time, and it was a tight one. The game was tied 2–2 around the 10‑minute mark and stayed that way through regulation, sending it to a shootout. Three shooters each resulted in one goal for each team. Finland shot first in the final round and missed, and then Abbie Wood buried her second shootout goal to secure the win. Isabel’s goalie partner, Grace Duffy, stood tall and helped the team lock it down.

Second game of the day had Isabel in net against Germany Selects. The first period was close, with shots 10–9, and Isabel stopped everything that came her way while the girls scored three. In the second period, the team really took control and allowed just one shot. Final shots were 28–11, and Isabel earned the shutout.

After four games, the girls are sitting in 3rd place overall. They’ll play their final preliminary round game at 5:50am tomorrow morning (our time) against Sweden Selects. A playoff spot is already secured, but they’re aiming to hold onto 3rd place or better, with 8 of 14 teams advancing — and every playoff team being a strong contender.

One especially cool moment from home: SSMS classes were invited to watch Isabel’s game, filling the auditorium with cheering students. They even recorded a quick good‑luck video that was sent to her — something she’ll definitely remember. 💙

The goalie leaderboard has also been updated: Isabel is currently 4th out of 26 goalies on the tour with a .950 save percentage.

Above all, this tour has been an incredible opportunity. The level of play, the international competition, and the chance to be part of such a great group of girls has made this a truly fantastic hockey experience for Isabel (and Nonn)— one we’re incredibly grateful she gets to have.

Game update from this morning’s 9:45am puck drop 🇫🇷🏒
Isabel got the start in net today.

The girls went up 1–0 and held it until 1:18 left in the first, when SHD Global Selects tied it up. About a minute into the second (two 20‑minute periods total), SHD scored again to take a 2–1 lead — and the wait for that tying goal felt endless.

Huge relief when the girls finally tied it up with 8 minutes left.

Then an even bigger exhale at the 5‑minute mark when they scored their third goal to take the lead.

Isabel saw plenty of action, facing 29 shots and stopping 27 of them. So proud of her effort in net today. 🥅💙

Last night was also a highlight with a banquet bringing together girls and coaches from all teams. Watching them go from sweatpants and hoodies to looking pretty sharp was fun — even if socks and Birkenstocks were still part of the look 😄

Two more games coming up tomorrow.

Up at 3:30am today to log in and watch Isabel’s hockey tour in France! 🇫🇷🏒We’re streaming through SolidSport (https://solidsport.com/wsi-u14), which has professionally recorded and live‑streamed games — $60 USD for the full tour or $20 per game. Huge relief that the quality is absolutely top‑notch, so we can follow along right from our couch at home.

This morning her team faced Slovakia Selects. Isabel’s goalie partner, Grace Duffy from Minnesota, played Game 1. The team came out strong, scoring the first goal of the game, had it answered quickly, then buried another one early in the second period before sealing it with an empty‑net goal in the final minutes. Final score 3-1. Games are two 25‑minute periods, and the pace was fast and exciting.

Next up, Isabel is in net at 9:40am today, taking on the SHD Global Selects, made up of players from Norway, Denmark, Russia, England, and more.

We also just want to say thank you to everyone who supported Isabel over the past months leading up to this trip — the encouragement, messages, help, and cheering from near and far truly mean more than we can say. We’re so grateful to be able to watch her chase this opportunity.
Proud, tired, and loving every minute. 🏒🥅💙

🇮🇹➡️🇫🇷 Trip update from Canada

Following along from back home, here’s how Isabel’s trip has been going so far.

The group started out in Milan, balancing sightseeing with early practices. They visited the Duomo, the castle, and the Galleria, often called the world’s oldest mall. Those first practices helped everyone settle in, and the girls are already building the kind of connections that help on the ice and usually last well beyond a single event.

This morning, the group traveled on to Chamonix, France. One of today’s highlights was taking the gondola up Mont Blanc for some incredible views. Full credit to Nonn, who isn’t known for loving heights, but pushed through and made it all the way to the top with Isabel—fear officially conquered.

Food continues to be a win. Isabel has always been happy to eat just about anything and has been trying new dishes, while still returning to familiar favorites now and then. Pasta remains a staple.

As a fun add‑on to the trip, the organizers have arranged a short series of multinational games before the actual tour begins. The girls were split into 14 mixed teams, with Isabel skating on Team 7, alongside players from a number of different countries. These exhibition‑style games start tomorrow and will be followed by opening ceremonies and a jersey exchange.

The official tournament games begin Wednesday morning, with an 8:45am start in France—which means 3:30am alarms for those of us cheering from Canada.

More updates to come as play gets underway.

Kicking off this incredible journey with so much gratitude. Thank you to our community, family, friends, and local businesses for all the support that helped make this experience possible.

Isabel and her Nonn (grandfather in Italian) left Fredericton yesterday at 12pm, had a 5 hour layover in Toronto, 1.5 in Montreal and were finally on their way.

They arrived in Milan this morning. This is her family for the next 10 days! So excited for her ❤️
