Why is it that a neurodivergent coach who literally has all the tools still ends up 100% depleted?

Because of Hyperfocus. That’s why.

Today, I worked from 10 AM to 8 PM. No breaks. Just back-to-back intakes and sessions. When an ND brain locks in, it’s like a plane on autopilot: we lose the ability to check the fuel gauge. We don’t feel the hunger, the thirst, or the mounting exhaustion until the engine completely cuts out.

Hyperfocus isn’t always a “productivity win.” Sometimes, it’s a sensory trap that allows us to bypass our own boundaries until there’s nothing left.

If you’re a chronic hyper-focuser, you can’t always trust your “feeling” of being tired, because you won’t feel it until it’s too late.

External Interruptions are helpful. Set a physical alarm in another room so you are forced to stand up and break the “trance.”
Your brain won’t tell you to stop, so your environment has to do it for you.

And if you’ve pushed past your capacity today, don’t try to “fix” it. Don’t plan your “comeback” for tomorrow.
Your only job right now is a Sensory Reset. Turn off the lights, put the phone in another room, and let your brain exist without having to process a single piece of new information. The world can wait until your battery is back in the green. 🔋🔌

Why is it that we can get 1,000 “I love this!” comments, but we spiral at the one negative one?

It’s about survival.

Many neurodivergent people grew up constantly being corrected, misunderstood, or made to feel like they were “too much.”
Because of that, your brain developed a high-speed scanner for disapproval. Your nervous system learned early on that rejection was a threat to your safety, your belonging, and your self-worth.

That one negative comment feels ten times louder than the praise because your brain was literally trained to prioritize “danger” over “safety.” Are you being dramatic? No… You’re being protective.

What can you do?
When the spiral starts, try
The “Receipts” Reset. Keep a folder on your phone or a physical list of “wins” and kind messages you’ve received. When that one comment starts to feel like the only truth, force yourself to look at the receipts.

Remind your nervous system that the “danger” is just ONE person’s opinion. NOT YOUR REALITY. 🛡️✨

It is the ultimate ADHD Paradox: My brain physically cannot focus in a cluttered environment, yet my brain is a world-class clutter-generating machine.

It’s not just being messy; it’s that our “internal filter” is broken. We don’t see one mess; we see 1,000 individual items that all require a decision. Eventually, the brain just “shuts the blinds” and leaves it all on the floor.

The Tip: If you’re stuck, try “The 3-Minute Dash.” Set a timer for just 3 minutes and commit to stopping when it beeps.

It tricks the brain into starting because the “threat” of a massive cleaning session is removed. Usually, once you start, the momentum does the rest. 🚀✨

Which element anchors you? ⚓️

It’s not “laziness.” It’s a hurdle in task initiation. 🧱

If you’re neurodivergent, you know the feeling of standing in front of a task that should take 5 minutes, but feeling like you’re staring down a mountain. It’s not that the work is hard, it’s that the executive function required to “get started” is incredibly taxing on your nervous system.

Our brains often see a messy kitchen as one giant, sensory-heavy data point. When we can’t figure out the first step, our system protects us by going into freeze. We call it procrastination, but it’s actually paralysis.

Lower the bar until it’s on the floor. Don’t aim for a clean kitchen.
Don’t even aim to load the rack.
Give your brain a micro-win:
Just press start.

Often, that one tiny movement breaks the freeze and momentum follows. But if it doesn’t? There is zero shame in stopping right there.
You honored your capacity, you checked your wiring, and you chose alignment over the shame spiral.

Stop calling it « laziness. » 🛑

If you’re neurodivergent, you’ve probably heard it a thousand times: « Just get up and start. » But if it were that easy, you would have done it already.

There is a massive difference between laziness and paralysis. Laziness is a choice to rest. Paralysis is wanting to move, knowing you have to move, and being physically unable to bridge the gap between « thought » and « action. »

The Cost: When we call it laziness, we invite in the guilt and the shame spiral. And guess what? Shame is the enemy of action. It only locks the paralysis in tighter.

Stop fighting the « lazy » label and start looking at your nervous system.

Acknowledge your energy levels.

Follow your actual capacity.

Wait for the « wave » When your body finally signals it’s ready, move with it, not against it.

Stop spiralling. Start aligning 🧠
