The Bernadette Short School offers classes for beginners up to internationally competitive champion level dancers. Dancers can begin classes as young as age 5 but can begin at any age, including adulthood. Bernadette Short came to Montreal from her native Dublin in early 1974 and soon began teaching the Irish step dances she had learned while growing up. Bernadette was certified by the Irish Dance
Commission located in Dublin, to teach Irish dance classes. The Bernadette Short School of Irish Dancing is now 35 years old and has expanded to include multiple classes per week for both children and adults. Dancers from the Bernadette Short School perform at many community events throughout the year but are most popular at events in the month of March as many people celebrate St. Jean Baptiste celebrations, municipal days, senior residences and hospitals. In addition, dancers from the Bernadette Short School are extremely successful in the competitive Irish dance network. The school has won regional and North American titles in both solo and team events every year for many years, and has received honourable mentions at both the All Ireland Championships and the World Championships. The dancers who compete at this level are extremely dedicated and disciplined in their dancing, fitness and health.
