Fact 💫 🏔️

Healing doesn’t always feel like progress while you’re living it. But every week, I get a front row seat to it and I’m here for it. 💚

💫 🏔️ Friday Fact 🏔️ 💫

Wanting things to be different and being ready to be different are not always the same thing.”

This shows up more often than people realize.

⭐️ Sometimes we desperately want our anxiety lower, our relationships healthier, our habits different… but we aren’t quite ready to face what change asks of us.

⭐️ And sometimes, we want someone else to change like our partner, child, friend, coworker while feeling frustrated, hurt, or exhausted that they aren’t ready, willing, or able to do the work.

😬 The hard truth? Change cannot be forced.

Growth often requires honesty, discomfort, accountability, letting go of familiar patterns, and choosing something new… even when the old way feels safer.

👉🏼 Wanting change is a start. Readiness is another step entirely.

🦋And sometimes therapy becomes the space where people explore the gap between the two.

One of the biggest things counselling has taught me?

🤜🏻 No one is immune to struggle.

👉🏼Everyone is carrying something you may never see.

🤔Imagine what could change if we slowed down enough to look up, listen, and truly notice one another.

What if healing started with something simple?

Looking up.
Listening longer.
Checking in.
Being kinder.

We teach young athletes how to perform under pressure. But we’re not teaching enough of them how to survive the pressure they put on themselves or the pressure placed on them by others.

Perfectionism is exhausting kids in sport.
And it’s showing up as anxiety, panic, burnout, emotional dysregulation, depression, and kids losing their love for the game.

🤜🏻 The fear of mistakes.
🤜🏻 The panic after a bad game.
🤜🏻 Feeling like their worth changes based on performance.

Mental wellness should be part of an athletes development just like skill, nutrition and training.

Sport should build confidence, resilience, and identity not in anxiety rooted feelings of never feeling “good enough.”

The goal was never perfection. The goal was growth, character, learning how to keep going after hard moments and having fun!

We’ve normalized waiting until things fall apart before taking care of ourselves.

🙏🏻 Therapy after the anxiety spikes.
😴 Rest after the burnout.
🏋️‍♀️ Movement after the diagnosis.
🛑 Boundaries after the resentment.

But we get one life. One shot at this. Why are so many people only learning to care for themselves once they’re already running on empty?

Sometimes it starts with one small step before the crisis. Maybe it starts with...

🚶‍♀️ One walk.
💦 One glass of water.
☝🏻 One less drink.
🗣️ One honest conversation.
📅 One appointment booked.

Maybe it’s putting pride to the side. Maybe it’s letting go of generational stigma. Maybe it’s finally choosing to take care of yourself before life forces you to!

Shannon ❤️

We check in on others. We show up. We push through. But when was the last time you checked in on yourself?

Mental Health Week isn’t about doing more rather it’s about noticing what you need.

You deserve support. You deserve space. You deserve to feel okay again.

Some days in this work are heavy…
and other days, I am reminded why it matters.

“I got dressed and showered today.”
“I almost cancelled but I came.”
“I didn’t spiral the way I used to.”
“I set a boundary and held it.”
“I reached out instead of withdrawing.”
“I stayed.”
“I have been sober for 4 months.”

Not loud. Not performative. But deeply significant.

This is how change begins. This is how strength is built. This is what courage looks like in its most honest form. And on days like these, we know it's going to be alright ❤️

And I have the privilege of witnessing it,
every single day 🙏🏻
