Our U17 program was on the road today, taking on the Saint John Trojans in an exciting doubleheader.
The future of rugby is bright, and today both the Miramichi Slammin’ Salmon and the Saint John Trojans proved exactly why. From the opening whistle to the final play, there was never a dull moment. Hard hits, incredible teamwork, and nonstop action made for an outstanding day of rugby.
Our U17 Women battled their way to a huge 45-25 victory, while our U17 Men fought right to the end in an exciting 34-34 draw.
These young athletes put on a show and demonstrated everything the game of rugby is about; passion, grit, sportsmanship, and heart. We couldn’t be prouder of every player who took the field today.

Tough result at home today for the Slammin Salmon RFC as we fell 45-27 to the Trojans.

The boys battled hard from the opening whistle to the final minute and never backed down. Despite the scoreline, the match was much closer than it may appear, with several key moments and close calls late in the game ultimately going against us.

There was no shortage of heart and determination on display as the Salmon continued to fight for every inch in front of our home supporters. While the result didn’t go our way, there were plenty of positives to build on as we move forward.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to support us at home today. Your energy on the sidelines makes a difference, and we’ll be back to work this week as we prepare for the next challenge.

This past Saturday the Slammin’ Salmon senior men’s squad opened the season at home against the Fredericton Loyalists, a rematch of last seasons provincial final.

Although the men in pink didn’t come out on the winning side of the match this past weekend, there was still plenty of positives to take away from the encounter. Many young men received their first start or played their first game off the bench for the senior side, and played with a ton of pride and heart till the final whistle.

The men’s side look to rebound quickly as they have the Saint John Trojans coming to town on Saturday for what is expected to be yet another highly competitive contest!

The Slammin’ Salmon Women made their first-ever appearance in the Women’s Senior B League this weekend, taking on a long established Fredericton Loyalists side packed with experience and tradition.
From the opening whistle, our women showed exactly what they are made of. The match was fast-paced, physical, and full of hard hitting rugby. The Salmon rose to the challenge and carried a lead into halftime, proving they belonged on the field with one of the league’s most seasoned clubs.
While the Loyalists ultimately came away with the victory, the score tells only part of the story. What we witnessed was determination, heart, resilience, and the beginning of something special. Every player left everything on the field and represented our club with pride.
We couldn’t be more proud of these women and everything they have accomplished in such a short time. This is only the beginning, and the future is incredibly bright for women’s rugby in our community.
If you’ve ever thought about giving rugby a try, now is the perfect time. Whether you’re an experienced player or have never picked up a rugby ball before, we welcome you to join this amazing family of women. Come be part of something special.
