The U17 AAA Southwest Cougars are headed to Winnipeg to take on the #2 overall Winnipeg Bruins in a Best-of-5 playoff series.

McCreary, MB – The U17 Southwest Cougars closed out the regular season in style Sunday with a 5–3 victory over the Rangers in McCreary.

Zayden McKay led the way with two goals, while Evan Raes, Recklan Gabrielle, and Mac McCorrister each added a single marker. Raes, Kane Kowalchuk, and Camerin Taylor chipped in with two assists apiece in a strong all-around team effort.

Goaltender Dawson Smart was steady between the pipes, turning aside 38 shots to help secure the win and send the Cougars into the postseason with momentum.

Now the focus shifts to playoffs. The Cougars will head to Winnipeg ready to take the next step as they square off against one of the league’s top teams in the Winnipeg Bruins.

It’s a new season, a new opportunity — and the boys are ready for the challenge. 🐾🏒🔥

The U17 Southwest Cougars dropped a 6–3 decision to the Thrashers on Friday at Gateway Blue.

Evan Raes led the offence with two goals, while Austin Hargreaves added a single marker. The Cougars battled throughout, but couldn’t overcome the Thrashers’ push late in the game.

Goaltender Liam Banga was outstanding between the pipes, turning aside 49 shots and giving the Cougars a chance all night. An empty-net goal in the final minutes sealed the result.

Up Next: The Cougars are back in action on Sunday, February 22 at 1:00 PM in McCreary as they take on the Rangers. 🐾🏒

The U17 Southwest Cougars delivered a statement performance Sunday, earning a dominant 7–1 victory over the Ice Bandits in Souris and snapping their six-game losing streak in convincing fashion.

Evan Raes led the charge with a hat-trick, while Mac McCorrister added two goals of his own. Camerin Taylor and Recklan Gabrielle each found the back of the net to round out the scoring. Kane Kowalchuk chipped in with three assists in a strong all-around effort.

Between the pipes, Liam Banga was rock solid once again, turning aside 41 shots to backstop the Cougars to the win.

A complete team effort, timely scoring, and steady goaltending helped the Cougars get back in the win column in a big way. 🐾🏒🔥
