With over one hundred years of experience in teaching the youth of Lloydminster the games of baseball and softball, the Lloydminster Minor Ball Association will welcome another batch of young players to the diamonds of the Border City this spring. The recreational game has always been the focus for the LMBA and its many volunteers. All players begin their careers in the City League and many contin
ue to enjoy the game for life at the recreational level. City League is where great memories are made as play is relaxed and fun. The many great LMBA coaches focus on ensuring players develop a love of the game in this setting. Teams are formed through an evaluative process so that they are of equal strength, allowing them to have competitive games. The City League welcomes teams from the surrounding area and the LMBA is proud to continue to foster these recreational baseball and softball leagues. Although the LMBA is the Midwest’s largest organization of recreational players, it also has a competitive component. The Twins baseball and Blues Softball programs partake at the highest levels of competition. Players go through open tryouts to be placed on the rep. teams that are involved in tournaments and leagues across the prairies. Many of the Blues and Twins teams have experienced success at the provincial and Western championships. Again this year the Blues program will send teams into “A” level Softball (the equivalent of baseball’s “AAA”) play while the Twins will send a full slate of teams into “AA” baseball and will host the “AAA” Midget Pirates. The Blues U18 team will host the girls and boys “B” Western Softball Championships in Lloydminster on the 2015 August long weekend. The LMBA is proud to continue Lloydminster’s great tradition of enjoyment of both baseball and softball and excited to be able to offer play at both the competitive and recreational levels. The City Recreational League is at the heart of the Association and the place where the game starts for all of the LMBAs hundreds of players. Children from the age of four are welcome to join the traditionally sold out Initiation program which focuses on the basics of the game in a fun setting and has been the start for the careers of many high level players. From there, players can choose to continue in either the softball or baseball programs. Registration for all levels is now open online or in person on February 24th at the Servus Sports Centre.
